87th (Royal Irish Fusiliers) Regiment of Foot Victorian pre 1855 Officer’s shoulder belt plate.A very fine and scarce large example. Mounted on a rich seeded gilt rectangular plate with burnished edges, a large gilt flaming grenade; mounted on the ball, an eagle on a plinth inscribed ’8’. Reverse retains original two hooks two studs. VGCThe eagle represents the Eagle on the flagstaff of the 8th French Light Infantry captured by Sergeant Patrick Masterson of the 87th Fusiliers at Barossa on 5th March 1811.
