A mid-century light oak two-part plan chest - the cleated top over six long drawers with oak bar-handles, four with brass nameplate holders, on an inset plinth base. (LWH 114.5 x 84 x 86 cm)* Condition: The top and bottom sections of the plan chest (except for the drawers) are in differently stained oak – the bottom is darker stained, the top light oak – they were originally made together and match in construction, but the lower section has been later stained. The drawers to both sections are light oak. The top has bowed downwards very slightly in the middle, meaning that the top drawer catches just before it is fully closed and does not push flush. The lower drawer is a little sticky in the last inch or so of travel. The other drawers run smoothly. The top and sides have a few scratches and scuffs and there are two small spots of white paint to the front centre of the top. There is a chip to the wood to the back right corner at the top of the lower section (see photo)
A Victorian waxed pine three-drawer chest - the serpentine, single-piece top on foliate brackets to the canted corners, over three long graduated drawers with moulded glass handles, on a conforming serpentine plinth and turned toupie feet (LWH 106.5 x 51 x 77.5 cm)* Condition: Structurally solid and overall in good condition. The top has old, small shrinkage cracks to the sides and a larger crack to the front left corner, with a small chip missing from the end of the crack at the left hand edge of the top. There is a small repair piece let-in to the moulded edge of the other side of the top. The top drawer is missing the stops, so it pushes in too far – these are easily replaced. The right hand side panel has an old vertical shrinkage crack extending approx. halfway up the panel from the bottom edge.
