* JOHN LOWRIE MORRISON OBE (JOLOMO) (SCOTTISH b. 1948), PORTNAHAVEN, ISLAY oil on canvas, signed and dated 2000 image size 91.5cm x 91.5cm, overall size 110cm x 110cm Framed. Note: A magnificent and very large Jolomo, probably an exhibition centrepiece. Examples of this size rarely appear at auction, anywhere. Portnahaven is a small coastal village on the Isle of Islay (pronounced Eye-la) the southernmost island of the Inner Hebrides. Islay is the ancient seat of "The Lords of The Isles" and is perhaps most famous nowadays for whisky distilling. There are nine working distilleries on Islay including Bowmore, Ardbeg, Bruichladdich, Bunnahabhain, Caol Ila, Kilchoman, Lagavulin and Laphroaig. Note 2: Jolomo remains one of Scotland's most celebrated contemporary artists. In The Scottish Contemporary Art Auction of 13th December 2020, lot 717 "Birlinn Leaving the Uists" by Jolomo sold for £7000 (hammer) and on 20th June 2021 lot 641 "Nick'sTug at Crinan" (a 76 x 76cm oil) achieved £6000 (hammer). These being just two of numerous recent auction prices which reflect the still growing collector demand from both the UK and abroad for the vibrant work of John Lowrie Morrison. "Portnahaven, Islay" is almost exactly 45% larger than "Nick's Tug at Crinan".
