A rare Mendlesham fruitwood fireside chair, 19th century, with an unusually high back, the upper splat with a draught motif over a burr elm seat, 104cm high Literature: Bernard D. Cotton, 'The English Regional Chair', fig. EA156, p.255. CONDITION REPORT: Possibly four turned spindles to the top row replaced. Old repairs where arms join the back. Dowels to top of arms now securing them to supports. Cut down. 39cm high. Chair back and arms are loose.
A rare Mendlesham strung fruitwood fireside chair, 19th century, with an unusually tall back, with plain spindles and a pierced ripple-shaped splat over an elm seat, 126cm high Literature: Bernard D. Cotton, 'The English Regional Chair', fig. EA158, p.255. CONDITION REPORT: The back has been broken and is now repaired with fillets inserted to the rear. The arms have thus been reaffixed to the back and front supports.
