A VICTORIAN WHITE PAINTED CAST IRON GARDEN BENCH, last quarter 19th century, the outscrolled backrest with scrolling foliate cresting above an openwork register of five interlaced and scrolling strapwork panels, with conforming armrests flanking the slatted seat, on splayed legs to pad feet, height: 89cm, width: 166cm, depth: 72cm. Note: The seat offered here bears strong similarities to an iron bench produced by the John Finch Foundry of Dudley, patented by them in March 1881, but does not appear to bear any identifying stamps. A DUTCH SILVER MINIATURE BACK STOOL Indistinctly marked, 17th/18th centurywith simulated leather upholstery on turned legs and stretchers., the smaller ladder back example with a simulated worn caned seat, the other apparently unmarked, height: 6.5cm, width: 3.5cm, depth: 2.4cm (2). Provenance: Part of the collection (lots 167-231) formed by Baron Michiels van Verduynen (1885-1952), the Dutch ambassador to the Court of St James’(1939-1942). After the collection returned to the family’s residence Huys Clingendael. Thence by descent to the Barons Van Tuyll van Serooskerken.
ATTRIBUTED TO JOHANN HEINRICH CHRISTIAN FRANKE (1738-1792) portrait of Christian Hohenzollern, full length, wearing a white costume and hat, with his pet whippet by the River Oder, the Castle of Schwedt beyond, signed and dated lower right, oil on canvas, 133cm x 102cm. The Schloss at Schwedt was the seat of the Brandenburg-Schwedt line of the Hohenzollern family until 1788, when it reverted to the Kings of Prussia.
