A set of eight 1960s teak and beech bar back model CH23 dining chairs with rush seat, branded to rail, "designer Hans J. Wegner - made in Denmark by Karl Hansen & Son Odenese Denmark", 74.5 cm high CONDITION REPORTS All the chairs have loose joints, and some appear to have been reglued. The seats are stained and faded. All frames are discoloured, especially to the bar backs where there is evidence of damp / wet. The fronts looks as through they may have been stripped. There is some green mould on some of the chairs. All with various knocks, bashes, scrapes etc, and have been stored for some time, probably in damp conditions. Chair 1 Dark stains to seat, water signs to back. Chair 2 rocks back and forth under weight, some paint marks throughout. Chair 3 some small marks, seat yellowed. Chair 4 - brown streak mark across seat, white paint marks down legs, water stain marks down back. Chair 5 - water stain marks down back, rocks back and forth, water stains to seat Chair 6 - water stains down back, water tide mark to seat, rocks back and forth. Chair 7 - rocks back and forth, seat becoming unstrung, various marks etc. All chairs with various chips, marks, scratches throughout. All chairs with wear and tear.

A Regency mahogany hall chair, the pierced medallion shaped back with central painted panel depicting a lion holding aloft a cross, over a dished single piece seat, on turned tapering front legs CONDITION REPORTS Wear, scratches, marks, impressed marks etc to the painted back. Various chips, nibbles, scratches, dark marks, impressed marks, stains etc to the wood all over. General signs of wear and tear throughout. Both back legs have signs of splicing - possibly later replacements. Front leg with repaired damage and has been pinned. General signs of wear and tear and repairs throughout.
A set of six William Morris Sussex chairs after the refined design by Philip Webb, the rush seats on plain turned supports united by turned stretchers (4 plus 2 with arms) CONDITION REPORTS Joints on one chair are loose and on another are becoming loose. The vertial back supports on one has a large gouge about half way down. Another chair's back supports have crack to top finial. The rush seat frame is missing to the back of one chair, others have been repinned in various places and some are replacements. The seats - one rush seat is breaking in several places, another rush seat has been redone fairly recently. The two carver chairs also appear to have been re-rushed fairly recently. There is a break to a couple of pieces on one carver chair. One chair has a chunk of wood missing from the bottom of the right corner square support. All have general wear including to the varnish, there is also various scuffs, knocks, scratches and scrapes all over. The bottom section of the legs of all the chairs have ring marks around them - see images for further details. Carver chairs - both carver chairs have loose arms. Seat frame rails to all chairs - some have been reattched, either pinned, screwed in or glued and some are split.

He visited Britain in 1896 as part of a tour of Europe, Canada and the United States of America having earlier that year represented the Qing government at the coronation of Emporer Nicholas II of Russia. The meeting with Gladstone depicted in the above photograph took place at the British statesman's country seat on 15th August 1896.
