1948 Bentley MKVI Standard Steel Saloon Registration JLY191, Chassis B372CF, Six cylinder 4.25 litre engine, manual transmission.This elegant classic Bentley is finished in black and silver with pale blue grey leather upholstery. The current retired Doctor owner has owned it for eight years and kept the car in good mechanical order having had the gearbox overhauled, the back axle overhauled increasing its ratio to the R Type specification for better cruising speeds, a new exhaust system, new tyres and other general maintenance. Whilst the body work is presentable it will require some cosmetic work including a new rear bumper. The interior is in good order and has had the rear seat squab re-upholstered. It is supplied with a large history file including maintenance bills going back to the 1960s and photographic evidence of a full body and mechanical overhaul in the past, copies of original build cards, factory service manuals and spare parts list. It also has its original under dash small tool kit and large tools. A good useable example which is an ideal use and improve project which has had considerable expenditure lavished on it over the years. It has a current V5 document (Subject to 12% buyers premium inclusive of VAT).
Early 20th century oak office swivel chair Condition ReportSurface scratches, scuffs and knocks to the wood. Some small chips in areas, mainly to the edges. Two of the sticks on the back are broken, varnish is worn with losses, mainly to the seat. Areas of fading and discolouration, general wear and tear, see photos.
A pair of Regency mahogany hall chairs, with scallop oval backs plain wood seat on sabre front legs. 85 cm high (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: One chair has had a very old break to the left hand side of the back. This should be visible on our image. The repair is effective and has not spoilt the colour or general patination of the back. Other than this the chairs are in remarkably good order with no loose joints and no repairs to the legs. There are no splits to the seats. Another minor issue is that the rear corner under seat blocks on both chairs are affected with woodworm which has clearly long gone. The woodworm has not spread to anywhere else on the chairs.
A late Victorian carved mahogany armchair, deep buttoned and with lions head arm terminals, raised on turned and lobed front legs. Height to top of back 98 cm, width across arms 72 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The chair has some soiling to the blue material upholstery otherwise is in generally good condition, however the trim is loose in various places to include side sections. The back, the scrolled back, the carved arm lion head terminals have some wear to the exposed or raised sections. The downswept short downswept arm sections, again the corner has been rounded through use. The seat rail has minor marks and scratches, the front supports are missing the capitals and castors. The exposed frame throughout has minor marks and scratches.
A pair of leather upholstered armchairs, deep buttoned raised on short cabriole front legs. Height to top of back 77 cm, width across arms 79 cm. CONDITION REPORT: One of these chairs has three distinct areas of wear to the leather as follows:- Inside of right arm, a patch to the seat and to the front of the left arm. All of these areas are probably visible from the photograph. Apart from these areas the chair has general wear, light cracking and crazing to the leather surface, there are no rips or tears visible. The studs are all generally slightly corrode. The wooden legs are slightly scuffed and worn but free of any woodworm damage or breaks. The other chair is generally in a slightly better condition to the leather with no specific patches of wear but instead a general light scuffing, crazing, and creasing throughout. The studs are similarly corroded as per the other chair. The wooden legs are scuffed and worn and there are no apparent damage, repair, or worm damage. One of the buttons to this chair is slightly loose.
A mahogany cheval mirror, of slim rectangular form, raised on four downswept legs. Height 164 cm, width 36 cm. A set of six William IV mahogany dining chairs, with bowed top rails, drop in seats and raised on sabre front legs. CONDITION REPORT: This set of chairs are broadly in a fair if rather tired condition. One chair has slight woodworm damage to a corner support block, another has apparent repair to the crest rail, the crest rail looking to have come loose and then been reinforced to uprights, another chair has some damage to the carved scroll brackets to underneath of crest rail and the same chair has some chipping to front of seat veneer, which has been partially glued and filled with resin.
A matched set of two carver arm and four single Chippendale style kitchen dining chairs. CONDITION REPORT: These chairs are all late 18th or early 19th century in date and are a combination of elm, oak and mahogany. The chair with the shaped pierced splats and wood seat has a split running across the width of the seat together with damage to both front corners of seat. In addition the carved areas to the crest rail both appear to be chipped. The other chair with wood seat has a shrinkage split running the width of the chair and in this area there is also some woodworm damage and some chipping to both sides of the chair, one of these areas has been partially filled with a resin. The two dining chairs with drop in seats are a pair, one has cracking to the front left seat corner whilst the other is slightly faded. The armchair with rush seat and red seat cushion has an old repair to the crest rail which appears to have come off and bears patches to the reverse. There are also screw repairs to both arms. The other armchair which features a drop in seat is scuffed and worn but does not appear to have any major damage.
A Victorian rosewood nursing chair, with tapestry back and seat raised on cabriole legs terminating in castors. CONDITION REPORT: The chair finials have small depletions and the padded back is lacking one carved wooden spandrel and one is loose, the padded back has some slight discolouration, the seat is worn throughout and has losses to the piping and a rip to the front left-hand side, the legs have wear and scuffing, and the left-hand side seat rail has evidence of worm damage. The chair back has slight movement to the structure.
A pair of George III mahogany open armchairs of Sheraton design, with reeded cresting rails and uprights and geometric back, the seats upholstered in green cloth and raised on turned and reeded front legs (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: Each chair has been recovered, marks and scratches throughout, there is evidence that the rear part of the frame has been re-attached or repaired and there seems to be quite heavy filled holes to each of the rear supports around the base or the back of the seat area, it appears that these chairs have been restored or repaired at some point in their life probably quite some time ago, each of the legs has various scuffs and scratches etc.
An early 20th century child's ebonised bentwood bistro chair by Thonet, with cane seat, 62 cm high, a child's beechwood and rush seated chair, 50 cm high, together with a string seat stool. CONDITION REPORT: The Thoret bistro chair has wear to the crest rail, traces of wood worm damage and a repaired back rail. The child's beechwood chair has old woodworm damage, the string seat stool is in good overall condition.
