A Robert "Mouseman" Thompson Oak Upholstered Back Stool, drop-in solid seat, on turned and block supports, joined by stretchers, with later recessed carved mouse to underside of seat, 87cm See illustrations Robert Thompson was known to go back and carve a mouse at a later date. This chair was in Robert Thompson`s own house and is photographed in Lennon (Patricia) and Joy (David) Mouseman The Legacy of Robert Thompson of Kilburn, p.31 (the grain is exactly the same). This form is typical of the 17th century. Robert was inspired by English oak furniture of this period, and developed his own style which we are so familiar with today.

Sidney Barnsley (1865-1926) An Oak Settee, circa 1907-1915, with shaped chamfered three-section lattice back, each section with two vertical splats through a shaped mid rail, shaped arms on an outswept support, upholstered drop-in seat on a rectangular box frame joined by a stretcher, 4`11" (151cm) wide, 1`7 1/2" (49.5cm) deep, 2`11" (88.5cm) high See illustration Both Sidney Barnsley and Ernest Gimson designed variations of the settee with a chamfered lattice back, a feature inspired by the superstructure often found on farm wagons.
