A VICTORIAN BLEACHED WALNUT NURSING CHAIR of Jacobean design, the padded back and overstuffed seat in ivory tapestry covering, the high back with pierced and carved scrolling foliate crest on spiral turned stiles, fringed seat, spiral turned and block legs joined by similar stretchers and arched scroll carved front stretcher centred by a shell, 48" high.
A LATE VICTORIAN ROSEWOOD SOFA with bone stringing and foliate marquetry panels, upholstered in oyster damask covering, one end scrolled, the other rounded with raised back and linked by a padded back rail, downswept arm supports, overstuffed seat, on turned tapering legs and castors, 68" wide.
Marcel Breuer for Isokon Furniture Company, a BC1 chair (Isokon Long Chair), designed 1936, but this example manufactured circa 1964 by Alesbury Brothers, Maidstone. NB: Breuer's original, 1936, version has an inherent design fault where the seat is attached to the frame. Breuer redesigned the chair in 1952 making the seat slightly wider and supported on brackets. As Isokon ceased making furniture in 1939 and Jack Pritchard was busy with the Furniture Development Council, the re-designed chair was not put into production until 1964 and even then on a modest scale. This was purchased from Jack Pritchard to match the original Isokon Chair owned by the Rowntrees. See illustration
A Victorian black lacquered occasional chair, the high back with central papier mache panel, decorated with inlaid mother-of-pearl flowers and oriental buildings, with gilt painted borders, raised on spiral twist uprights with canework panel seat below, raised on slender cabriole legs. See illustration
A late Victorian carved mahogany salon suite, comprising: a two-seat occasional settee with carved scrolling back, rectangular padded panel above the upholstered seat covered in gold tapestry, raised on slender cabriole legs with castors, 48in. wide; together with a pair of matching open arm easy chairs; and a set of four near matching standard chairs similarly upholstered.
