a Victorian mahogany framed and button upholstered hide patent 'self-acting' library wing armchair by George Minter of London in close-nailed dark green hide, the rounded back with outset lugs and adjustable 'rake' action above downscrolling arms with roundel terminals, the seat similarly with adjustable 'pitch' and an apron fitted with an integral sliding footrest, on a cantilever action, on short turned legs ending in brass socket castors, the legs stamped on either side: 'G.MINTER, 55 GERRARD STREET SOHO, VR PATENT 2007' 67cm wide, 111cm high, 160cm deep (approx.) note. George Minter is listed as a cabinet-maker, undertaker, bath chair and wheelchair maker working from various addresses in London from the 1820s to the 1850s. A similar example was recently sold by Messrs. Mallams of Oxford (26th May 2004)
