High Quality 19th Century Writing Slope once owned by Lewis Randle Starkey MP (1836-1910). What is obvious from this box is that they were makers of quality and their use of a Bramah Lock (Brass lock plate stamped "Bramah J.Dyus London") and Berry Patent wells are testament to this. This box is remarkable for its completeness original tools and travelling inkwell and vesta case (likely to be Berry's). This is a double action slope opening first to reveal three reusable faux slates to use with a pencil. This section then opens again to reveal a a slope to one side. The piano hinges are all solid brass and the lock a top-notch Bramah (no key), a true sign of quality, this would have been an expensive box in it's day. The leather exterior is embossed in a quilted design and has a heavy duty cast brass carry handle to the top, coordinating with the brass escutcheon. The handle engraved "Lewis R Starkey". Pen knife by Joseph Rodgers and Sons of Sheffield. The company's trade mark was a star and cross. Rodgers was one of a handful of cutlers with a Royal Warrant. Cutlers to Her Majesty refers to Queen Victoria.Lewis Randle Starkey (13 March 1836 – 16 September 1910) was a British Conservative politician. 2004 Range Rover believed to be Ex-HM Queen Elizabeth II Transmission: automaticMileage:There can be few cars that are as well-known and iconic as the mighty Range Rover. Launched in 1970 and built in the UK, this leader in the 4x4 field is now on its fifth incarnation. Enjoyed by Royalty and celebrities alike, the Range Rover is both aspirational and practical. The car has been described as 'the best 4x4 by far' and has been the winner of numerous awards. This example has possibly one of the most interesting and regal starts to its life, circumstantial information leads the vendor to believe that this was originally delivered to the Royal Estate for use by the HM Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip in London and Balmoral. First registered in 2004 and supplied by Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations as per contract 34319. It has been confirmed by Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicles that this example was specified with a modified front grille with covert blue lights, switch pack (to power said lights), front and rear seat covers, dog guard, load space mat, side steps and mudflaps, this all an addition to the standard car options which are found with the Heritage Certificate and include heated front and rear seats, non UWB door lock frequency and tinted glass all round to mention a few. Ordered of course in Epson Green with Sand (Oxford Leather), the 4.4 litre V8 boasts air suspension, and the car is currently with its fourth owner with none of the previous aware of what could have been such illustrious beginnings. The car was supplied by SV to an unknown dealer code, EXEL AMS, for whom the British Motor Heritage Trust themselves cannot track details for apart from a detail recall print off from JLR which identifies that in July 2004 the car was sent to Stratstone Land Rover, Mayfair for a warranty recall before a similar warranty recall at Peter Vardy Land Rover, Aberdeen, the closest Land Rover dealership to the Balmoral Estate. With the Royal Family traditionally frequenting Balmoral between July and September, the assumption being that the car was seen in Mayfair before being transported to Balmoral where it was again seen after the family left to return to London¦ the plot thickens! Upon requesting details from the DVLA, the vendor has been refused any previous keeper's details, a copy of the letter can be found in the history file alongside photographs of what is believed could be the car with the Queen driving, showing the colour. The image shows the dog guard, and the seat covers but sadly as yet no image has been uncovered showing Queen Elizabeth and the cars registration number. Further possible telling indicators of the cars beginnings include duel rear window switches, these are not JLR standard parts but could be ordered and fitted by dealerships, this has been seen before with the Queens Daimler Majestic and enable the rear passenger (possibly the Queen) to control the other rear window thus stopping the wind blowing directly into her face or displacing one of those fabulous hats! Furthermore, keen eyes will spot on the door pillars there are rear climb handles to assist entry and departure from the car, this is something believed to be unique to the Queens Range Rovers due to her insistence of no assistance from staff when entering and exiting the car thus the handles along with the side steps enabled comfortable entry for a lady who would have been in her late 70's at the time. The final piece of circumstantial evidence leading the vendor to firmly believe this was indeed her majesty's car are the two reasons he embarked on this voyage of discovery, he noticed one day when cleaning his car there were two areas where the car had filler and in odd places, one on the bonnet, two marks clearly visible from the underside and one to the rear on the roof. The rear is believed to be for the radio comms arial also seen in a photo of a L322 Range Rover driven by the Queen and the front believed to be where the Labrador mascot was mounted as also seen in photos. The car now is in very good order, the vendor has chosen to keep the car as original as possible in the hope that the provenance can be cemented. Having covered a little over 109,000 miles from new, the service history is comprehensive with its first service in April of 2005 with Stratstone Mayfair before a further five with Hunters Land Rover, two with specialists in Windsor before a further five services with John Dennis in Aylesbury before a recent Land Rover service this July ready for the Auction. Confined to the garage and minimum use, the car is possibly one of Jaguar Land Rover more important cars of the last 20 years and could be an incredible piece of Royal provenance. The vendor is hoping that should someone have a photo of this car and her majesty driving or as passenger they will send to Historics auctions@historics.co.uk but regardless the circumstantial evidence is compelling and all signs certainly point toward this indeed being property of the late beloved Queen Elizabeth II. Guide Price £28,000 - £38,000

Lot 219

1995 Volkswagen Golf VR6 Transmission: manualMileage:78000Produced from 1991 to 1997, the Volkswagen Golf VR6 arguably kicked off Europe's obsession with the mega hatch as it epitomised the ideal balance of performance with everyday usability. Replacing the 1990 Volkswagen Golf GTi G60, this front-wheel drive, five-seat, compact hatchback is part of the Mk. III generation Golf, which came in three or five door variations. It also came with the option of a five-speed manual gearbox, or a four-speed automatic. As far as fuel economy is concerned, this car should achieve around 30mpg, meaning a full tank should cover 350 miles before requiring a refill. These cars are pretty rare, as today there are only around 850 Mk. III VR6s on UK roads. First registered on 19th May 1995 and costing £19,920, this metallic blue VR6 is a three-door manual example. Described as totally original and even featuring the uprated, from factory, Sony HiFi upgrades, this example boasts just three former keepers, the last a lady who has owned the car since the turn of the millennium. The car has recently undergone a light restoration and is offered with an MoT test certificate until June 2024. The history file contains a full book pack and a comprehensive service history with significant paperwork for previous maintenance. This is a true unmolested example of the iconic 90's hot hatch when big engines in smaller cars become all the rage and Volkswagen's V6 was the perfect combination.Estimate £3,000-£7,000

The rear body not only presents in standard factory guise but with a huge range of adaptations such as pickup trucks, tow trucks, general haulage and immediate triage on the front line. Lot 141

2004 Jaguar XK8 Convertible Transmission: automaticMileage:61190Jaguar was founded as the Swallow Sidecar Company by Sir William Lyons in 1922, originally making motorcycle sidecars before developing passenger cars. The name was changed to Jaguar after World War II to avoid the unfavourable connotations of the SS initials. Sale to BMC happened in 1966, which in 1968 merged with Leyland Motor Corporation and became British Leyland. Jaguar cars today are designed in Jaguar Land Rover's engineering centres at the Whitley plant in Coventry and at their Gaydon site in Warwickshire and are manufactured in Jaguar's Castle Bromwich assembly plant in Birmingham. The Jaguar XK series was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show on 5th March 1996. The first generation of the series, the XK8, replaced the XJS and was available as a coupé and convertible. The XK8 was the first eight-cylinder vehicle produced since the Daimler 250. The XK8 came with 17 alloy wheels, leather interior, burr walnut trim, and side airbags as standard. This lovely example is presented in Zircon Blue metallic with cream leather interior. The car has upgraded brakes all round, cruise control, ABS and alloy wheels as standard. It also has electric wing mirrors, fully electrically adjustable seats with memory function and two driver seat positions and auto active headlights. Its sound system is Jaguar AM/FM radio/cassette and has as six-disc CD changer in the boot. The dark blue hood is in good condition as indeed is the car in general with the latest service having been carried out at the end of May this year by Powerball in Taplow. The service history is good with servicing carried out by a mixture of Jaguar and specialist garages and with it only having two owners from new, this example presents itself very well and is offered without reserve.

Lot 232

2004 MG X-Power SV Transmission: manualMileage:5313MG's striking SV was designed by Peter Stevens, Royal College of Art Designer who had been responsible for McLaren's F1 and was based on the platform of the Qvale Mangusta. Prior to the demise of MG Rover, a team has been working on a project to return the company to the forefront of motorsport competition via sports and touring racing which included production of high-performance road cars. The X-Power SV was planned as the ultimate in the company's street legal offerings. Making its debut at the 2002 UK Motor Show the SV boasted a mouth-watering specification including a Ford 4.6 litre V8 power plant with five-speed gearbox and limited slip differential. The design's Italian-built steel box frame chassis (clothed in carbon fibre) was extremely rigid - as it needed to be in order to cope with some 320bhp on tap. The 0-60mph dash could be achieved in under 5.5 seconds whilst top speed was quoted at 165mph.Car number 144 was sold new in May 2004 to Gordon Sturdy who specified his SV as a manual gearbox car painted in Garnet Red Supertallic. Believed to be the only one painted in this shade of red, (most red cars being painted in Solar red), it was specified with 'Oyster' leather and Alcantara interior, automatic climate control, CD Tuner, Infinity speakers, large rear spoiler and track day free flowing exhaust. The supplied original bill of sale shows Mr. Sturdy paid £46,000 for the car and then an additional £870 to have the SV seat upgrade. The car's history file shows receipts for maintenance work carried out by Maidstone Sports Cars, as well as the original owner's handbook, parts list CD, MG X-Power SV book by David Knowles and promotional DVD and book. Whilst officially the second owner, Mr. Stury was for all intents and purpose the first, as the car was first registered to MG Sport and Racing Ltd as a demonstrator. It must have had light use though, as even now the car has only covered 5,313 miles. Purchased by our vendor in 2021, the car formed part of a large eclectic collection of cars and has had only light use. Reported by him to run and drive incredibly well, the car is now only for sale to free up some money and space for an incoming project.Supplied with a V5C registration document, original purchase invoice, book pack, maintenance and service handbooks, many MoT test certificates and invoices. This rare and unique car, believed to be the only in this colour is bound to wow at any car meeting or show, with performance to match its wild styling.Interested parties should note that contrary to the catalogue description, this MG SV X-Power is not the only car painted in Garnet Red, but in fact one of only two cars painted by the factory in the colour.

1972 Volkswagen Fibrecraft Storm Beach Buggy Transmission: manualMileage:67549Starting with the Meyers Manx, the dune buggy craze took off in America in the early Sixties. Used Volkswagen Beetles were abundant in California and the surf culture was at its peak in the Sixties. The dune buggy epitomised the California lifestyle, and as the concept was so simple and so inviting, it spread quickly. This correctly registered 1972 Fibrecraft Storm, long wheelbase, four-seater is finished in a custom blue metal-flake paintwork with bespoke black interior. The drivers and passenger seats are on runners to make plenty of space for rear seat passengers. Sitting on chrome wheels with huge deep-dish rears on 295/50/15 Cooper Cobra Radial G/T tyres. Restored over a ten-year period from 2008 to 2018 and finished to a superb standard, this buggy is now only ever used on dry days and has covered less than 1,000 miles since completion but still retaining its original period speedometer. Lot 253

2010 Land Rover 110 Transmission: manualMileage:62700The Land Rover Defender was launched in 1948 and, incredibly, production only finished in January 2016 after a continuous run of 67 years. Outwardly, there is little to distinguish the post-1983 vehicles from the Series III Land Rover. A full-length bonnet, revised grille, plus the fitting of wheel arch extensions to cover wider-track axles are the most noticeable changes. Internally, coil springs offered a more comfortable ride and a permanent four-wheel drive system derived from the Range Rover featuring a two-speed transfer gearbox with a lockable centre differential. A modernised interior and a new series of progressively more powerful and modern engine characterised things under the skin. In August 2011, Land Rover announced an update of the Defender for the 2012 model year. By this time, Land Rover publicly acknowledged that it was working on a project to produce an all-new replacement for the Defender. This stunning 2.4 litre TDCi Land Rover Defender 110 with the desirable seven seat configuration is finished in Stornoway Grey with a black trim. First registered on 31st March 2010 and with just three former keepers the last two having been in the vendors family since 2012 passing from sibling to sibling. This example also boasts an uprated Alpine stereo and speaker system and alarm immobiliser. Recently fitted with new brakes discs and pads, new side-steps, full LED light conversion and new like for like Continental tyres. Supplied with the original owner's book pack and service book including a comprehensive service history with numerous original invoices, MoT test certificates and original toolkit. With two original keys, this is a fabulous example of the iconic, practical and robust collectors Defender.

1962 Jaguar Mk. X Transmission: automaticMileage:45823The Jaguar Mk. X was the top of the range saloon car built by the British manufacturer primarily aimed at the United States market. The unitary construction bodyshell was codenamed 'Zenith' during development and this floor pan continued in production long after Mk. X production ended, as the DS420 Limousine. The interior was the last Jaguar with abundant standard woodwork, including the dashboard, escutcheons, window trim, a pair of large book-matched fold-out rear picnic tables and a front seat pull-out picnic table stowed beneath the instrument cluster. Later, air conditioning and a sound-proof glass division between the front and rear seats were available as options. The Mk. X was the first Jaguar saloon to feature independent rear suspension and differed from earlier large Jaguar saloons in having 14 wheels instead of the more common 15. The front suspension used double wishbones with coil springs and telescopic dampers. The car initially featured a 3,781cc version of Jaguar's XK in-line, six-cylinder engine. For the London Motor Show in October 1964, the enlarged 4,235cc unit took over although the 3.8 litre unit could still be specified until October 1965. Many domestic market cars and almost all cars destined for the important North American markets left the factory with a Borg Warner automatic gearbox. Stopping power for this heavy car came from servo assisted disc brakes on all four wheels; power assisted steering was standard. The current owner purchased this fabulous Jaguar on 2nd November 2003 with a recorded mileage of 43,194 miles; the car at the time was not on the road and needed a bit of attention to get through an MoT. Once MoT'd he used the car for just over a year and then decided to either to sell it or restore it. The latter decision was made and the stripping of the Jaguar commenced which he has captured on the two CD discs that are in the history file for the new owner to have as a record. Once the car was stripped, it was sent to the bodyshop to be prepared and painted, while this process was being achieved the woodwork was sent to be restored and all the seats, door cards, rear parcel shelf and front under shelf were sent to be retrimmed. To complete this work, six hides of red leather were used to completely retrim the car which, as can be seen, has turned out to be absolutely stunning. Once the car was returned from painting, the rebuild began with the headlining being completed first and then the refurbished woodwork being pieced back together, firstly around the headlining and then down the pillars, the dashboard was next which took quite a while with regards to the refitting of the clocks and gauges and after this, the rear picnic tables were fitted, therefore, completing this stage. Brand new carpets were fitted which were supplied by BAS of Newport again this was quite fiddly especially around the sills and the centre console but was eventually achieved. All chromework was then refitted to the car which included door handles, bumpers, front and rear lights, roof chrome, new rear boot chrome, new front grille and then bonnet chrome. Once completed the seats were fitted and then all door cards, centre console with a brand-new period radio which has Bluetooth etc, rear parcel shelf and any other areas were finished off with the leather trim. Finally, the boot was retrimmed to match the red interior of the car which gives a much nicer look than the usual Jaguar biscuit colour. After completion of the rebuild, the carburettors were completely restored and a brand-new stainless-steel exhaust system was fitted and the radiator then received a re-core, all new water hoses, water pump, thermostat and a brand-new set of ignition leads and plugs followed by an electronic ignition set to finish off. The present vendor has had the pleasure of owning the vehicle for nearly 20 years of which 14 were restoring this magnificent vehicle and as you can see the car now has a recorded mileage of 45,823 miles, this means the car has only covered 2,629 miles in his ownership. This is a simply stunning example of this British classic and surely must be one of the finest available.

1984 MG Metro Turbo Transmission: manualMileage:7376The MG Metro was introduced in October 1982 some six months after the launch of the MG Metro 1300. The MG Metro Turbo was a leader for its day with the Lotus Engineering assisted design for the very comprehensive changes that were done to the engine which was very capable of handling the modest 93 bhp the standard engine was quoted at, although many actually delivered closer to 100 in standard unmodified form. Later tuned race cars would push that power to 200bhp, a massive power level for that period and even more so for a 1300cc engine. Other positive features included powerful servo assisted brakes using four-pot calipers and ventilated discs up front. The Turbo also came with a bodykit that provided a front spoiler and four-wheel spats to go with the MG Metro rear spoiler and this together with the use of Turbo only specific larger 13" alloy wheels and low profile tyres the individual look was enhanced considerably. One of the pocket rockets of its day, only 22,000 were made and survivors very rarely come to market now.First registered on 21st March 1984, the MG Metro Turbo offered here is nothing short of incredible. The car is completely original having been lovingly cared for by its first owner for the first 30 years of its life. Mr. Lamont purchased the car new from Lex Mead of Bexleyheath, Kent for the sum of £5,500. The car was used lightly for the first five years when a mere 6,532 miles were put on it. The car was then taken off the road by Mr. Lamont and stored in the garage at his new home until July 1999 when it was displayed at the Guildford MG show. Whilst stored the car had been regularly started to maintain it. Winning its class in concours events in both 2001 and 2002, Mr. Lamont felt he had made his point that his car was truly exceptional. In the years since it has covered few miles, but always maintained in perfect running order. Amazingly, all the documentation remains with the car from the original V5 logbook, to its original purchase invoice book pack and manuals. Along with the prizes won there are many receipts and relevant period publications. The car is so original that other than a light refurbishment to the seat covers in 2012 and a total brake overhaul in 2013, the car is totally original. It sits on a set of original wheels with modern tyres, but the original wheels that came with the car from new and their original tyres are also included. Having resided since 2019 as part of a large collection, the vendor has decided to move the car on to free up both space and funds for a new project. He reports the car to run and drive very well and is a time warp example, impossible to replicate.Supplied with a V5C registration document, original invoice, book pack, maintenance and service handbooks, many MoT test certificates, invoices, photo CD and publications. This presents a once in a lifetime opportunity to acquire a three owner, full history from new, perfect condition example.

Ferrari partnered with Alcoa to produce an entirely new, all aluminium space-frame chassis that was 40% stiffer than the F355. Along with a lightweight frame, the new Pininfarina body styling deviated from traditions of the previous decade's sharp angles and flip-up headlights. The new V8 engine utilised a 3.6 litre capacity and, despite what looked like, on paper, as modest gains, in reality the power to weight ratio was significantly improved. The first model to be rolled out was the 360 Modena, followed later by the 360 Spider and finally, as a special edition, the Challenge Stradale.Finished in an out of range body colour, specially ordered at the time, Tour de France blue with tan leather. Our vendor purchased the car as the second owner in 2004 with just 1,112 miles on the clock from Maranello for £121,000 and owned for four years until 2008 when he sold the car to a Ferrari collector and registered under Knight Frank LLP but our vendor regretted the decision and five years later in 2013 decided to buy the car back to place in his collection having such fond memories of the car. Supplied with the Ferrari Certificate of Conformity the car was specified when new with red brake calipers, electronically operated seats, xenon lights with power wash, enamel Scuderia wing shields, Daytona seat inserts and a six-disc CD changer. 2003 Mercedes-Benz SLK 320 Transmission: automaticMileage:60035At start of the 1990s, after the introduction of their two-seat, grand-tourer R129 SL and the Mazda MX-5, Mercedes-Benz set out to create a new compact roadster, slotted below the SL. By late 1991, under Bruno Sacco, the first design sketches were drawn up and scale models were built in the first half of 1992. Massively successful in its first year, worldwide sales hit 55,000, over double the entire nine-year production of 190 SLs and between 1996 and 2004, over 311,000 SLKs were sold. The roof design consists of a folding steel hardtop with both halves linked by a mechanism which is locked securely when the roof is closed. At the touch of a button on the centre console, a hydraulic system controls the fully automatic folding process in which the boot lid is also integrated. This very good, 2003 Mercedes-Benz SLK 320 was first used at a Mercedes main dealer, Hughes of Beaconsfield as a demonstration car being purchased by the current lady owner directly from them in December 2004. Powered by a 3.2 litre V6 engine, the SLK 320 delivers impressive performance, producing 215bhp. This engine, paired with a smooth and responsive automatic gearbox, enabled the SLK 320 to accelerate quickly and deliver a dynamic driving experience. This car has only covered 60,000 miles from new and has been regularly serviced, mostly by Mercedes main dealers with the last major service carried out in April of this year at a cost of £1,200. Finished in brilliant silver metallic with Anthracite leather interior, this SLK 320 is supplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in November 2023 and a file containing all the maintenance invoices and the original bill of sale. These small Mercedes represents excellent value for money and are ideal for the summer months with the roof down.

1997 Bentley Continental R Transmission: automaticMileage:98000Since 1921, the Bentley name has remained synonymous with prestige, performance and luxury. The 'Continental' designation recalls the Bentley Continental of the post-war period. The 'R' resonates to the R-Type Bentleys from the 1950's as well as the Turbo R of the 1980's. Bentley's 1980's resurgence relied exclusively on models whose basic architecture was shared with other Rolls-Royce products; however, the Bentley Continental R was unique to the Bentley marque. Despite the need to incorporate non-traditional features such as doors recessed into the roof, the result looked every bit a Bentley, albeit one re-stated for the 1990's. Needless to say, the performance was outstanding, the combination of the Turbo R engine in the new wind-cheating shape cutting the 0-60mph time to under six seconds and boosting top speed to in excess of 150mph.This truly immaculate Bentley Continental R is finished in Cobalt Blue metallic paintwork and defies the mileage listed on its odometer, in essence the condition of the car is comparable with a car having covered a third of the 98,000 miles. The interior presents in Silverstone hide with a blue top roll and contrasting dark blue underside, dark blue carpets with unmarked dark blue lambswool over rugs and rear seat cushion, an upgraded Hi-Fi sat nav system and rear parking sensors. The car is also a 1998 year model first registered in 1997 thus benefitting from the later refinements. This is a fine example and a well-cared for motor car with a comprehensive service history, including fully stamped service booklet and owner's manual, and three sets of keys including the chauffeur's key. the car has been maintained by Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialists, Ranmore (formerly Royce engineering) since 2006 and in recent years they have continued their maintenance for our vendor who has owned the car since late 2020. Just five previous keepers have experienced the luxury and power that is derived from the 6.75 litre Bentley power plant and given the condition most must have been in a straight line. This is a car that truly must be seen to be appreciated, very few Continental R's we have offered are in this condition and can boast being such a colourway coupled to the desirability of being a late example of the marque.
