A LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY CAST IRON SEAT BACK SIGN 'BURTON SALMON' with raised letters to a recessed face, in original unrestored condition (cleanly broken in two across central fixing point), 114cm long. Note: Burton Salmon station was opened in 1839 by the York & North Midland Railway, on the line between York and Castleford. It closed to passenger traffic in 1959.
Two Corgi Whizzwheels car models: 202 Renault 16 TS, dark metallic blue with orange interior, reclining passenger seat, Renault' decal to rear, tow hook, chrome fittings and Whizzwheels (includes instruction leaflet); 311 3 Litre V6 Ford Capri, red with black bonnet and interior, gold steering wheel, Corgi leaflet, and Whizzwheel (small tape repair to box window). Both appear E/M in VG-M boxes.
An early Georgian oak longcase clock by W Clark Kendal, with glazed swing door enclosing brass dial with date aperture, decorated with gilt mask spandrels to each corner, trunk with panelled door, two lead weights and pendulum, 216cm high x 51cm wide CONDITION REPORT: Lot 290 - foot has vertical crack, trunk has later bracket to inside, section of moulding lacking to left edge of hood, later seat board, moon dial not connected to mechanism, date ring not connected to mechanism, mechanism untested.
1930's Robert ``Mouseman`` Thompson oak chair, the cross splat back with a carved squirrel recessed motif, drop in seat above caved legs, carved mouse signature, adzed finish, united by stretchers. private collection of “Mouseman” furniture, the pieces passed down from the vendors Grandfather Harold Stead. The collection was formed from a friendship between Harold Stead and Robert Thompson. Harold Stead decided in the 1930’s to begin the restoration of The Manor House in Lower Wyke, near Bradford, by the late 1930’s restoration was completed, one of the rooms had oak panelling and through knowing cabinet makers H P Jackson and Robert Thompson the decision was made to use the “Mouseman” to fill the Manor. All the pieces in this auction were personally worked on by Robert Thompson himself, originally the collection of furniture was larger but owing to Harold Stead retiring and downsizing a large portion of the collection was sold, these nine pieces being the last of the collection.
