Wood has some spots where the varnish has slightly worn, and some nibbles around the edges. A few scores and strips where varnish has come off around the edges. Some residue around some of the bolts. Victorian yew, ash and elm low hoop back Windsor armchair, with handwritten label beneath elm saddle seat "Jolly Farmer Inn, Church St, Edmonton. John Stratton Tamplin entered in above A. D. 1847 - he dec'd there Match 1892 - This Old Chair was in the Parlour and was given to C. P. Christie by the son Edward Tamplin as a remembrance of his father and the long tenancy October 1892". John S. Tamplin is records in each census 1861-1891 at this address.The chair is solid but has wear marks on the top/insides of the arms and to the top of the back bow consistent with usage. The legs have the expected amount of wear for something of this age and the cross stretcher is in good order.
