A late 17th century Flemish walnut and tapestry open armchair rectangular back and seat covered in needlework tapestry, swept leaf carved scroll arms, on turned legs united by a high front stretcher and conforming H understretcher, on lion paw forelegsheight 107 cm., width 64 cm., depth 68 cm.Condition: Tapestry has age. Good colour to walnut, some old worm, minor chips and and losses to stretchers. Old repair to back rear foot. Beech seat rails possibly later

A 17th century carved oak Wainscot armchair the rectangular geometric carved panelled back with scroll carved crest rail, having downswept arms on baluster supports, boarded seat and guilloche and dentil carved seat rails, on baluster turned forelegs with block feet united by outer stretchers, fitted tapestry covered seat cushionheight 109 cm., width 61 cm., depth 59 cm.Condition: Crack to back panel and replacement patch to bottom left hand corner, some shrinkage to crack. Some later elements, notably blocks to underside of seat, old glue to side joints and and rails. Rear left joint has repair with filler. Spliced repair to rear left leg.

Some old repairs, some losses.NOTES REGARDING THE PAINTED CHAIR AS FOLLOW:. Wear and losses to painted decoration. The paint appears to have significant age and may be original. There is a small amount of staining to the upholstery. Some minor fraying in areas and the upholstery lifting away from the frame in a small number of areas. A number of old nails holes and fragmentary losses there where upholstery has previously been secured (see images) some minor evidence of old worm (see images) . The painted chair is of solid structure with virtually no movement to joints.  NOTES REGARDING THE MAHOGANY CHAIR. Water stain to seat upholstery and dirt tot he arm pad upholstery. Some minor fraying. Some nail holes where upholstery has previously been secured (see images) some minor evidence of old worm (see images) . Various old repaired breaks that remain visible on inspection (see images) some have adjacent old losses. One arm terminal has a neatlu introduced but visible dowel/ peg joint through the top of it to secure. Later blocks glued and screwed to the interior corners of the seat rail. The joints of the legs and seat rail appear to have been later -reglued. There is some residual glue and areas of filler adjacent. The chair is of solid structure. All items with the expected scuffs and wear to upholstery. Wooden legs bear the expected scuffs and chips. All pieces structurally solid overall. Nearly all of the additional smaller cushions with wear, losses and fraying to the corners. Some pulls and loose threads to seat and back cushions. The turned wood tiebacks to the sofas with some minor chips and scuffs. The seat cushions are compresses/sag slightly as to be expected with use. The tan sofa with with areas of additional wear and discolouration to the arms and the top of the back.
