An exciting and colourful collection of circus memorabilia, principally from the 1940s. 50s and 60s, especially the Bertram Mills Circus but also including Billy Smart, Ringling Bros, Tom Arnold, Blackpool Tower and various international circuses. The collection mainly consists of programmes, handbills and newspaper pieces but also includes oddities such as a Bertram Mills contract, the Table Plan for their inaugural luncheon 22nd June 1953, the Daily Graphic photgraph album commemorating Bertram Mills silver jubilee and a David Smart mug. There are also a number of books on circuses and performers such as Coxe, A Seat at the Circus1951; Mannix, Memoirs of a Sword-Swallower, 1951; Lukens, The Sanger Story, 1956; Eipper, Circus, 1931; and Barnum's Struggles and Triumphs, [c.1880]. A study of what Lord Morrison called the ''oldest and cleanest form of entertainment in the world.''

Finely built live steam 7.25 inch gauge 2-4-0 tender locomotive, Great Eastern Railway No. 494 Stratford 1895 finished GER fully lined blue/black with makers plates in red on cab sides, GER on tender sides and 494 on tender rear, locomotive with 2 inside cylinders, full back head with easy access roof, lever assisted regulator, 3 manometers, blowdown sight glass, brake lever, hand wheel reversing gear, sanding box control etc, tender is fully sprung and braked, has hand water pump and riding seat. No documentation or history.
Live steam, finely built and very well detailed 7.25 inch gauge 2-6-4 STANIER class 4P boiler tank engine, finished unlined LMS black No. 2237, 2 outside cylinders, Walschaerts gear, drains on cylinders, removable cab roof, backhead with all expected controls, probably not run for some years, details include mechanical lubricators over cylinders, shed plate on smoke box door, works plates, vacuum hoses on couplings, lamps, detailed water tank filler caps, full rivet detail on side tanks, drivers seat in cab, tool cabinet in cab, 3 manometers marked 'BRUCE ENGINEERING', etc, the loco mounted on a wheeled HANDY HEIGHT PRODUCTS scissor jack (400kg), no documentation Condition Report / Extra Information No running history, appears to have been used in the past, no certificates or paperwork, overall needs a very good clean, cab roof is detached but present, some rivets need replacing
