A Set of Fourteen Mahogany Dining Chairs, circa 1820/30, including one carver, recovered in cream and pink striped fabric with curved top rails above scrolled horizonal splats, the overstuffed drop-in seats above reeded seat rails, singles 45cm by 43cm by 89cm, carver 52cm by 47cm by 88cm See illustration. Recently cleaned/polished so a uniform colour. Structurally sound and in good condition. One single chair top rail with triangular spliced section. Another with repair to top rail which has been split/repaired. One armchair with repair on the upright support, mainly just visible from the verso. Chair seats in good clean condition. 051019
A Matched Set of Eight Mid 19th Century Yewwood and Elm-Seated Windsor Armchairs, one stamped Nicholson Rockley, each with low double spindle back supports and pierced splats above curved armrests and spindle turned supports, with elm moulded seats and ring turned legs joined by a crinoline stretcher, 58cm by 43cm by 91cm See illustration. Chair 1 - structurally sound. Some old decay under seat. Some glue marks around legs. Stamped Nicholson Rockley. Chair 2 - structurally sound. Some old decay around splat. Left hand arm with small peg repair. Small natural splits in seat. Chair 3 - slight movement in frame. Small fault/repair under arm support above spindle support. Crinoline stretcher with glue/repair marks at the rear section. Chair 4 - back support is damaged. Chair 5 - structurally sound. Rear left leg with small fill hole above crinoline stretcher. Chair 6 - slight movement in framework. Numerous scuffs and faults around legs and feet. Seat with some very small minor natural splits. Chair 7 - some very slight movement in joints. Heavy decay to legs, particularly rear left leg which has been ebonised. Rear right foot also retipped. Chair 8 - structurally sound. Some fill holes/polishing around the curved back support between the spindles. Elm seat split towards front which has been partly filled and polished. All chairs a good colour. 041019

A Japanese Carved Hardwood Bench, late 19th/early 20th century, the back support profusely carved with a dragon above two moulded panels decorated with exotic birds, the carved arm supports with dragon heads above a moulded seat frame, 143cm by 54cm by 108cm Overall good. Seat with some scratches and scuffs consistent with age. Carved detail good. Carved cresting above the dragon with minor loss which has been filed down. 091019
A Harlequin Set of Nine Mahogany Dining Chairs, circa 1840, comprising six with curved back supports above reeded uprights, recovered in cream silk damask, with plain seat rails and moulded roundels, on turned and fluted legs, 47cm by 42cm by 85cm, and three similar, upholstered to match, with moulded seat rail, on carved and fluted tapering forelegs, 47cm by 42cm by 85cm . Chairs are good quality and generally in nice condition with good colour and patina. Two with minor repairs on the top rails. Chairs are structurally sound and upholstery is clean. 091019

A Joined Oak Settle, the nulled top rail above four fielded panels carved with tulips and leaves between outswept arms, the hinged seat above four moulded panels, on block feet, 141cm by 50cm by 99cm. Good cosmetic condition and uniform colour throughout. The hinged seat with batons to underside for strengthening. Verso of back panel with old worm holes. A 19th Century Six Piece Suite of George III Style Mahogany Seat Furniture, recovered in brown close-nailed velvet, comprising a set of five library armchairs with arched and padded back supports, padded arms and overstuffed seats with moulded and scrolled arm supports, on moulded square forelegs with egg and dart borders and carved brackets on castors, 73cm by 61cm by 102cm, and a three-seater settee, upholstered to match, with padded back support and scrolled arm supports, on square moulded forelegs joined by an H stretcher, 200cm by 74cm by 103cm See illustration Provenance: Christie's, Swinton House, Masham, 20-21 October 1975, lot 17, from the Drawing Room, sold with original sale catalogue. Sofa - upholstery good. Framework reasonable. Front left leg with small section of carving missing. Internal framework with old worm holes throughout. Rear right leg with minor repair. Framework has also been darkened/polished at some stage. Armchair 1 - structurally sound and fabric good. Some variations in colour to framework, mainly around left hand arm support. Rear leg with splice repair to a good standard. Armchair 2 - structurally sound. Minor scuffs and faults to framework consistent with age, mainly around arm supports. A George III Mahogany Framed Wing-Back Armchair, late 18th century, recovered in green fabric, with rounded arm supports above a squab cushion and serpentine shaped seat rail, on acanthus carved forelegs with pad feet (retipped), 90cm by 71cm by 115cm. Upholstery generally good, but corner of one arm support is almost threadbare, the other arm slightly stained. Internal framework has not been inspected. All legs retipped. Chair 1 - structurally ok but old repairs/fill marks on top rail above pierced splat. Slightly varnished/treacle finish. Arms with fine split, partly filled and polished. Moulded seat with fine splits, partly filled and polished. Chair 2 - structurally ok. Old repairs. Splice repair to the bowed section just below the back support. Elm seat with minor natural? Split. Chair 3 - slight movement in joints/legs. Small repairs through spindles and arms. Chair 4 - joints/legs slightly weak. Split in curved section of back support. Splat also with minor split. Chairs are structurally sound and in reasonable condition. Slight variations in colour, mainly backs of chairs faded, but fairly uniform. Framework reasonable. Some bruising on single chairs, but consistent with age. Green velvet seats in good condition. 041019
