A Swiss 'Black Forest' musical side chair, for a child, the cartouche shaped back pierced, carved and incised with edelweiss, the hinged serpentine seat conforming and enclosing cylinder musical mechanism, on carved cabriole legs, 65cm high, 28cm wide (musical mechanism inoperative) Provenance: Charles Ethelbert Hillman (d. 1939) who was mayor of Tunbridge Wells in 1938-39. Every Summer he and his family holidayed in Switzerland and brought back various Black Forest carvings as souvenirs.
A Swiss Black Forest piano stool, late 19th century, carved as a seated bear, glass eyes, with a revolving seat in the form of a tree stump, 49cm high Provenance: Charles Ethelbert Hillman (d. 1939) who was mayor of Tunbridge Wells in 1938-39.
