A George III mahogany open armchair with floral carved mid rail, fluted arm and overstuffed seat, raised on tapering turned supports Has been completely stripped and re-stained, small repair to back of right arm where it meets the back. Arms ahve possible repair due to dowels, front legs cut down.
Manufactured by Bylaw refectory table with cleated four plank rectangular top above gouge carved frieze standing on four turned and block legs united by "H" stretchers, 244cm (96") long x 86cm (34") wide, accompanied by Derbyshire design dining chairs, comprising of six single and two open arm carvers, each with arched top rail above raised and fielded panel back, two plank solid seat, block and turned foreleg supports, united by turned stretcher.

WW1 - Nursing - an interesting and unique archive, formed by Matron Ethel Angear, the matron-in-charge of Londonderry House Hospital, 19 Park Lane, London W.1., throughout the First World War, including an apparent ink MS admissions book of officers from August 24th 1915 to December 12th 1918 when the matron recorded 'Hospital Closed', the latter pages of the books with photographs of former patients, hospital interiors and later newspaper clippings recording their post-war and post-hospital lives, including frequent investitures and marriages; an album of late 19th century and earlier 20th century 'autographs' and messages collected by A. Garbutt (deceased patient?); b/w photographs, loose and in 'albums'; various newspaper clippings pertaining to her, the hospital's work and its former patients; other ephemera pertaining to the Londonderry family (Vane-Tempest Stewart) and their relations, including pencil letter on Wynyard Park mourning notepaper (their Durham seat), newspaper cuttings of the family's official and social lives, telegraph from the marquess to the matron congratulating her on the upcoming investiture of the Red Cross at Buckingham Palace; War Office letter, telegraph from the Lord Chamberlain (Lord Sandhurst), etc., all pertaining to the award and the upcoming practicalities and etiquette; headed correspondence, to and from the matron, from B4 [...] Officer's Mess, R.A.F. An 18th century oak armorial panel, carved with the arms of Gilbert Talbot, 7th Earl of Shrewsbury impaling those of his wife Mary Cavendish, 36.5cm x 36cmProvenance: Gilbert Talbot succeeded to the titles and vast estates of his father in 1590, from henceforth his chief seat locally was Wingfield Manor (where Mary Queen of Scots had been incarcerated by his father) which was damaged in the Civil War and largely dismantled by Immanuel Halton in 1783, and from whence this panel could have come.
