The mahogany is good quality, dense and tight in grain - lending itself to fine carving. The upholstery is recent. Evidence of historic repairs to top rail and upper section of splat, although seem stable now. The arms has been pegged/doweled both where they meet the seat and stiles, although not obvious. The carving appears to be contemporary to the piece, although a unusual feature. Possibly replacements to stretcher/stretchers. Knocks, scuffs, surface scratches and marks consistent with age and use. Frame generally sturdy, although some play evident in one arm.

A small Victorian, Maynard & Co of London teak and mahogany two-section campaign chest of drawers, fitted four long drawers, each carcass with brass sunken folding bale handles and capping and side handles to each side. Bearing a Maynard to one drawer bottom, the top of the lower section bearing the legend: Mr. Saul, Passenger No5 Shanghai, together with an applied shipping label. 81 cm wide x 43 cm deep x 87 cm overall height.A private estateMaynard & Co were active in the supply of campaign furniture as well as other services and activities connected with the busy passages to China and the East in the 19th century and although uncommon at auction are often to be seen in the inventories of specialist dealers in campaign items.Base missing remains of fixings for a tray top to facilitate a wash stand or gallery, sadly we do not have the missing bale handle.The sides of each carcass are free of splits.the drawers run as expected and all seat at the right depth.Sadly we don't have the framed.The top has some knocks and scratches as expected but no splits.As mentioned we don't have the gallery that would fit the top.The chest came from a West London estate.

The seat is decorated with a circular mother-of-pearl inlaid medallion of flowers and a hummingbird.Height: 33 in x width: 16 in x depth: 21 in.Condition:The chair is structurally sound and stable. There are no splits to the wood. The cross-section in the stretcher disconnected. There are small losses to the mother-of-pearl inlay throughout, visible in the lot listing. An Edwardian mahogany and inlaid salon settee in the Regency style of small proportions, the caned back flanked by scroll arms over an upholstered seat on square tapered splayed supports to brass caps and castors 143.5 cm wide x 55 cm deep x 79.5 cm high CONDITION REPORTS The back has been badly broken and has been off previously and badly screwed back on. The piece has green paint variously throughout on the woodwork and some heavy scratching and losses to the veneer. The back right hand foot has been off and has been shoved back on.
