A late George III mahogany framed child's high chair in the Chippendale taste, the back with moulded ears and serpentine top rail above a fretwork carved splat, flanked by S scroll open arms raised on turned supports, the upholstered seat above a fretwork carved frieze with foot rail raised on square moulded supports united by stretchers to out-swept feet (safety rail missing) (ILLUSTRATED)
A 19th century Chinese export carved hardwood armchair the panelled rectangular back with central lion rampant armorial above a banner inscribed:'Prudentia et Animis', bounded by four dragons and fretted roundels the downswept scale carved arms with dragon mask terminals above a solid seat, on similarly carved faux bamboo sabre legs 46cm wide, 87cm high, 46cm deep (seat 42cm high) Note: the crest is that of Indian Army Major Charles Steele of the XIII Hussars and later of Ngong Dairy, Karen, Nairobi. He had a great quantity of silver made for his marriage in 1912 and it is possible that this chair was commissioned to mark the same event.
A mid 18th century mahogany framed chair back settee the curved back with double paper scroll crestings flanking a central carved scallop shell above a pair of solid vase-shaped splats, similarly carved with scrolls, the outscrolling arms boldly carved with lion masks, each with bared teeth and finely carved trailing manes, the balloon-shaped drop-in seat, with a caddy moulded rail and damask upholstery, on three front scallop shell and leaf carved cabriole legs ending in claw and ball feet, the two rear legs of plain outswept form; together with a pair of associated side chairs, of near-matching design (3) Settee: 158cm wide, 106cm high, 56cm deep (seat 47cm high)
