A Scottish George II mahogany dining chair, c. 1740, the yoke shaped top rail and baluster splat above a cut-velvet upholstered seat on square section legs united by a cylindrical front stretcher. Note: chairs of Chinese inspiration were popular in the 1740's and are held in many country house collections including Newhailes House.
