An Italian brass and iron faldistorio, with a velvet covered seat, on turned tapering supports united by an 'H' stretcher, 28.75in (73cm) h, 26.75in (68cm) w, 21.25in (53.8cm) d. This type of folding stool derives from the Antique curule stool and became fashionable during the Middle Ages as it suited the peripatetic lifestyle of wealthy families. During the Renaissance this model of stool enjoyed the favour of Sovereigns, Popes and Bishops during outdoor ceremonies.
A set of four gilt wood simulated bamboo chairs, in Chinese Chippendale style, with trellis backs, stuffed over seats and the legs united by 'H' stretchers, comprising: a pair of armchairs and pair of side chairs, one armchair with an applied tapestry seat of horses standing by trees.
