AN ENGLISH TERRACOTTA GARDEN SEAT ATTRIBUTED TO JAMES PULHAM & SON, BROXBOURNE, LATE 19TH CENTURY Of slightly curved outline, the foliate panelled back centred by a boy within a roundel, the ends as winged griffins on stepped bases 44in. (111.8cm.) high, 80in. (203cm.) wide, 24sin. (62cm.) deep, the seat - 17sin. (44.5cm.) high The design for the present seat appears as No.405 'The Blenheim Seat', page 43, Section V in the Pulham catalogue of Garden Ornament from the early 20th Century.

A Fine Ash & Elm Caquetuese Armchair Circa 1700. The tall tapered back with a dome topped cresting rail above a long fielded panel flanked by plain uprights with square stepped finials. The shaped flat plank arms on rising baluster posts leading down to an edge moulded twin-plank seat on turned front legs and chamfered back legs with turned spindles connecting the seat rail and peripheral stretchers.

A Set of Twelve 'Smoking High' Windsor Armchairs. Each chair having a hoop back centred by a pierced 'Christmas-tree' splat and flanked by four spindles either side leading down to the raised centre section of the three part arm bow with outswept pad arms. The pierced lower splat flanked by well turned spindles with an elm seat on decoratively turned baluster legs united by a turned double barred H-form stretcher.

An Early 17th Century 'Glastonbury' Joined Oak Folding X-frame Chair. The back panel having a scrolling top above a pair of guilloché arches and carved lozenge motifs between run-moulded uprights with peaked finials. The shaped plank arms joined by removable pegs and leading down to the round turned front rail of the plank seat. Standing on X-form legs joined by a plain turned cross-stretcher.

A Fine 17th Century Carved & Inlaid Oak Wainscot Chair. The high cresting rail centred by a lady's face mask and flanked by marguerite daisies, scrolling waves and cusps of fanned leaves above a moulded top rail of chequer inlay and a similarly inlaid central muntin dividing the back into two panels of carved daisy wheels. The plain uprights with carved 'ear-pieces' either side and a shallow panel of dog tooth inlay below. The scroll-end shaped plank arms on bobbin turned supports. The seat having a gadrooned front edge and chip-carved notches to the moulded sides, resting on inlaid seat rails and bobbin-turned legs joined by a turned front stretcher and plain stretchers to the sides and back.From Sir Alistair Graham's Collection, Lower Old Hall, Norland.
