**Please note this vehicle is not exempt from the ULEZ charge as incorrectly stated in the catalogue**Just like any other Taxi - air conditioning, floor lighting, walnut dashboard, intercom, chrome handles, Alpine sound system and 1,581 miles from new - well, perhaps not. Offered here is a 19 year old, purpose-built London Taxicab that has covered a mere 1,581 miles from new. The vehicle was owned from new by Sultan Qaboos of Oman as part of his vast vehicle collection in London and was first registered in 2003. It's a London Taxi International TXII Gold model which was a top of the range model at the time and has the advantage of full air-conditioning front and rear, walnut dashboard, chrome grille and door handles and intercom system. At further expense a centre console was fitted in the rear to house a fully remote, high-quality Alpine sound system, and an occasional fold-down passenger seat in the front. The rear compartment also boasts floor lighting and a fold-down wheelchair access ramp. This taxicab looks, drives and smells as you would expect for what is, essentially, a new car. Always kept in heated garages, it has had occasional use only, yet has always been well maintained regardless of how infrequently used. The taxi comes with good service history and whilst it has never been used as a London taxicab, interestingly it is exempt from the city's Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) charge.SpecificationMake: LONDON TAXISModel: INTERNATIONALYear: 2003Chassis Number: SCRT4B6ME3C153410Registration Number: LF03 PPYTransmission: AutomaticDrive Side: Right-hand DriveClick here for more details and images

Lot 655

A rare, emerging modern-classic Alpina D3 with manual transmission and low ownership, in lovely, original condition with less than 4,000 miles from new.Essentially, Alpina took the already superb E90 platform from BMW and added some special Alpina touches resulting in more focused, diesel sports saloon with a unique appearance and exclusivity for owners. Styling features included larger Alpina multi-spoke alloy wheels, a front air-dam and rear spoiler, revised cloth seat inserts, Alpina dials, floor mats and a plaque with the car's build number reminding passengers they are onboard something rather special. Performance upgrades included tuned suspension, re-mapped ECU, larger Turbo and intercooler and improved fuel injection resulting in just under 200bhp and just over 300lb/ft of torque, rather impressive from a 2.0-litre oil burner.Offered here is a beautiful 2008 Alpina D3 with just 3,555 miles from new and only one previous keeper. It was supplied new to the UK in right-hand drive and first registered in February 2008 specified in Graphite Metallic with manual transmission. The condition of this Alpina can only be described as remarkable and our vendor informs us that, to the very best of his knowledge (he purchased the car in 2020) all panels are original with factory paintwork. The interior also shows no indication of wear with nicely preserved Alpina trim and original Alpina mats. The D3 has only been used in fine weather conditions, dry stored correctly and, with such low mileage, must be one of the best remaining examples in existence.Although lightly used over the years, the car is accompanied by a comprehensive service record with its original book pack including service book stamped up-to-date by BMW workshops and independent specialists. MOT Certificates from every relevant year corroborate the mileage from new and the current MOT is valid until 28th September 2023.In summary, this is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of a real emerging classic from a point in time when performance diesel automobiles were beginning to dominate endurance racing including Le Mans. A delightful, collector-quality Alpina with unquestionable provenance, concours potential and guaranteed to attract the right attention at any car show.SpecificationMake: BMWModel: D3Year: 2008Chassis Number: WAPD320007XL10607Registration Number: FJ57 CVGTransmission: ManualDrive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 3555 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Half Black Leather and Alpina ClothClick here for more details and images

Lot 760

A fabulous Defender with just 3,426 miles and featuring a beautifully engineered gun cabinet. An icon for over 68 years, production of Land Rover's Defender ceased in January 2016 with more than 2,000,000 models built since the original Series 1 arrived in 1948. Never has there been a car that has so captured the imagination of the world. Land Rovers have saved lives, won wars, delivered aid and hope, conveyed Kings and Queens and numerous Popes, ferried injured animals from the lowliest sheep to the proudest lion to safety. The Land Rover has conquered ravines, deserts and snow, broken records and along the way won the hearts of millions.During the final years of the Defender’s production, a new 2.2 turbo diesel was now standard and XS specification cars had redesigned seating trimmed in leather and Alcantara, heated to the front. When this 'end of the line' Defender 90 was first registered on 1st March 2016 it was supplied in what is now regarded as the most popular combination for those who prefer tarmac to turf. Finished in Santorini Black in XS specification with tinted rear windows and standing four square on 16in factory “Boost” silver alloy wheels, this is the Land Rover for Chelsea or Cheltenham, neither vulgar nor dowdy, outwardly rather glossy but quietly capable when called upon to get dirty. An example of this overt capability is the fitment, by the previous owner, of a beautifully engineered aluminium gun cabinet, described, in a no nonsense fashion, by the manufacturer as the TransLock TL4 Storage Drawer. Made from high-grade aluminium with heavy-duty, silent-glide drawer runners, twin key locking handles, removable storage tray, fully adjustable drawer dividers and for added security a seven-lever lock. The larger draw has cut foam inserts for stowage of dissembled shotguns and our vendor informs us that it appears to be unused. As the fitting of the gun cabinet required the removal of the two rear forward-facing seats, the Land Rover will be presented to auction with the rear seats fixed back in place and the TL4 Storage Drawer, with its fixings, secured on its side in the rear in acknowledgement that most buyers would prefer the standard four-seat configuration. The previous keeper was registered in April 2016 and the Land Rover is offered to auction with just 3,426 miles, at the time of cataloguing. Consigned to auction by our vendor who bought the car in September 2022 to fulfil a lifetime ambition, which was not shared by his wife. The Defender may be loved by many but to the uninitiated the driving experience, by 2022 standards, is an acquired taste when used socially. As such, and with a sizeable lump of money tied up in a car bought for post-retirement jaunts, our vendor presents the car with a newly fitted top specification Thatcham alarm and tracker, the full book packs and an MOT valid until December 2022.SpecificationMake: LAND ROVERModel: 90Year: 2016Chassis Number: SALLDWBP7GA484482Registration Number: KX16 HBFTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 151019202637DT224 Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 3426 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Black LeatherClick here for more details and images

Lot 639

A very late production 1275GT restored to a remarkable standard.Launched in 1969, the Mini 1275GT was the 'hot' version of the new-look Mini Clubman and was intended to replace the old Mini Cooper S, which duly ended production in 1971, leaving the 1275GT as the only sporting Mini on sale for the rest of the decade. The Clubman and 1275GT were themselves replaced in 1980 by the new hatchback Metro.Entered from private ownership, this exceptional example is one of the last flagship sporting Mini 1275GTs. Having been manufactured between June 1979 and October 1980, it benefits from being registered as an Austin Morris Mini 1275GT as opposed to the BLMC and Leyland Cars title, that the vast majority of 1275GTs carry. It was meticulously restored over a period of some 24 months which finished in 2013, and there are documented invoices for all the works carried-out (exceeding £20,000) on file. The Mini has only covered around 500 miles since completion, having been carefully stored since. The comprehensive restoration included:-· The vehicle was carefully dismantled to component form, to be restored to the highest possible standard.· The body-shell was then forwarded for chemical Stripping to renowned experts, SPL (Surface Processing Limited).· Many replacement OEM panels were sourced, including; front wings, rear quarter panels, door skins, valances, gusset closing panels, front panel, sill panels, front & rear subframe MPs and much more besides which facilitated the painstaking bodywork restoration (detailed within the history file).· The car was then zinc etch-primed before being professionally repainted in gloss black, ‘stonechipped’ and subsequently benefitted from careful rustproofing throughout.· The engine was removed, rebuilt and ported with the benefit of a duplex chain fitted.· Newton Commercial interior panels including quality fitted carpets and headlining were fitted.· Le Mans seat package with Cobra frames.· Superlight 12” alloy wheels finished in complimentary gold/chrome effect.· Replacement chrome & brightwork throughout.· New wiring loom.· New Cibie driving lamps.· Replacement brake-linings throughout.· Replacement window-seals, vents etc.· Replacement clutch & brake cylinders etc.Our vendor has recently had the vehicle serviced including a coolant change and has supplied a fresh ‘no-advisory’ MOT which has been added to the car's history file alongside the invoices and photographic records of the restoration. SpecificationMake: MINIModel: AUSTIN MORRISYear: 1980Chassis Number: XE2D2000730759Registration Number: XCA 630WTransmission: ManualDrive Side: Right-hand DriveClick here for more details and images

Lot 658

Owned by our vendor from new and cossetted in his Collection ever since, this stunning V10-engined R8 has only covered 419 miles.Genuine, mid-engine exotics don't tend to wear German badges. Yes, there have been a few exceptions over the years but they rarely received the acclaim of their Italian counterparts. Here's the car that broke the mould, the Audi R8. Here was proof that you could buy a car with the charisma and presence of a Lamborghini and the engineering of, well, an Audi and, with V10 power, the performance to match. Based on the Audi Le Mans Quattro concept car, the R8 first appeared at the 2003 International Geneva Motor Show, however, it was not officially launched until the Paris Auto Show some three years later in 2006.The R8 is a two-seat, mid-engine supercar positioned as Audi’s flagship model (a title it still holds today). At launch it was fitted with the 420bhp, 4.2-litre FSI V8 and a couple of years later the car became available with the 5.2-litre FSI V10 from Lamborghini's Gallardo which offered 525bhp when fitted to the R8. Both used Audi’s legendary Quattro four-wheel drive system which had been honed through decades of motorsport. The car's  cutting-edge design and performance to match generated much respect in the motoring press and confirmed that the R8 was worthy of a place in the supercar arena, along with the likes of Porsche, Ferrari and McLaren. A mild facelift in 2012 added a few cosmetic tweaks, LED lights and marked the arrival of the new dual-clutch, 7-speed S-tronic gearbox.Offered here is first-generation (Type 42), post-facelift, 5.2-litre V10-engined R8 that's been with its one owner from new and has covered just 419 miles in that period. It's finished in Estoril Blue Crystal Effect with fine black Nappa leather detailed with red stitching and was ordered with the 'Black' styling package, a CD player and 19’’ 5-arm double-spoke alloy wheels with a high gloss finish. Purchased new by our vendor from Audi Leeds, it has formed part of a very small exclusive collection alongside two low-mileage Ferraris and obviously used very sparingly during his eight years of ownership. The first MOT in May 2017 records just 302 miles.Totally immaculate and in a stunning colour combination, this is the closest you can get to a brand new R8 and your early inspection is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the sheer quality of this desirable Audi.  SpecificationMake: AUDIModel: R8Year: 2014Chassis Number: WUAZZZ425EN001803Registration Number: YK14 GKXTransmission: AutomaticEngine Number: CTYA002510 Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 419 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Black NappaClick here for more details and images

Lot 635

A superbly restored, matching numbers example of arguably the first 'Fast Ford' that was to inspire Carol Shelby's GT350.Some say that the Ford Mustang created its own industry sector by offering an affordable sports car for the daily commute, performance to raise a smile when in the mood and enough space for the family when required. That may well have been the case, however, it mattered not as the Mustang became a worldwide success story. The second of two models, the Coupe was marketed as the hardtop version of the convertible, and is today known as the 'Notchback'. The sportier-looking Fastback Coupe was launched in early 1965, clearly defining the Mustang range and was the genesis for the line of performance Mustangs that followed. An early example of those hot (well warm) Mustangs from the production line was the 289 High Performance (Hi-Po) which was later to form the basis for Carroll Shelby's legendary GT350.Records show that just 466 1965 K-Code cars were built at Ford's Dearborn factory, many destined for Shelby's Los Angeles workshops. The example offered here is a February 19th 1965 registered Ford Mustang K-code Hi-Po refinished to the most exacting standards. It's possibly the finest early correct example available worldwide and all tuned Mustangs, even today, can trace their DNA back to this car. Purchased by our UK vendor three years ago in the United States, the restoration was carried out by the renowned Mustang expert and MCA judge, Denis Frances, of Danville Virginia. It was subject to a bare-metal, rotisserie restoration with the unusual brief to present the car exactly as it would have left the factory complete with factory overspray detail and crayon marks. Finished in Caspian Blue and with a black interior and Carlite factory tinted glass, it is totally faithful to the original specification and retains its original door plate. Its original V8 289 Hi-Po engine was rebuilt at the same time as the restoration at a cost of $7,000 by a top US engine builder. The 4-speed. "top-loader' manual gearbox was also rebuilt at the time and the full specification includes black Decor seats, 9-inch differential, front discs with dual master cylinder, date-correct seat belts, correct steel wheels and reproduced Arvinode exhausts. This Mustang really is as good as it gets, and with just 300 miles since the restoration it caught the eye of our vendor on a plinth at the Silverstone Auctions NEC Classic Motor Show in 2014. In more recent years, it has been rightly displayed on the 'Pride of Ownership' stand and the vendor has covered some 1,200 miles in the car since. Our vendor has subsequently added a spare wheel with cover, fitted a period correct radio with modern electrics, prop-shaft seals and a passenger side window regulator, with the works carried out by noted specialist Bill Shepherd Mustang at a cost of £2,358.Presented to auction with a history file that includes recent receipts, V5C, owners manuals, a book entitled 'The 289 Mustang High Performance Mustang Story'  and an odometer reading of 20,987 miles at the time of cataloguing.SpecificationMake: FORDModel: MUSTANGYear: 1965Chassis Number: 5F09K640857Registration Number: FNA 392CTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 640857 Drive Side: Left-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 20987 MilesMake: LHDInterior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images

Fabulous, first-generation, Mulliner-specification Flying Spur with less than 33,000 miles from new.Introduced in 2005 to complement Bentley’s existing two-door Continental GT model, the four-door Flying Spur used a stretched version of its sibling’s platform. Powered by the same twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre W12 engine allied to 6-speed automatic transmission, the luxury sports saloon boasted 552bhp and 479lbft of torque; outputs sufficient for 0-60mph in 5.2 seconds and 194mph. Equipped with adaptive air suspension, continuous damping control and Torsen-based permanent four-wheel drive, the big Bentley proved surprisingly nimble. This impressive example is finished in Tempest Silver with beige leather interior and was first registered on 29th August 2006. It has enjoyed four years with our vendor and has covered just 32,386 miles. Despite this low mileage, the service records contain 12 service stamps suggesting diligent ownership and was most recently serviced in November 2021 by an independent Bentley specialist with less than 300 miles travelled since. It will be freshly MOT'd just prior to our sale and is supplied with both keys.LK56 CVG was factory fitted with a bespoke  Mulliner package which included a cross-stitched diamond pattern in the leather seats, embroidered headrests, drilled alloy pedals, 21-inch alloys and a sports-mode driving option. Lot 601

Elegant, 2.6-litre, four-seat, early-1960S Coupé clearly personifying Giorgetto Giugiaro's emerging talent.Alfa Romeo’s 2000/2600 family of saloons, spiders and coupés have never quite captured the imagination in the way the smaller 101 and 105-Series Giulias and Giuliettas have done but are now finally being recognised as serious classics in their own right. The 2000 replaced the 1900-Series as Alfa Romeo’s flagship model in 1958 and utilised a 2-litre, four-cylinder engine coupled with a 5-speed gearbox on a longer wheelbase platform for additional legroom. The Berlina was joined at the outset by a lovely Spider version, styled by Carrozzeria Touring, which acquired a set of twin carburettors to boost power to 115bhp. In 1960, the range was further expanded to include an elegant 2+2 Coupé styled by the talented Giorgetto Giugiaro, then employed as Chief Designer by Bertone. The Sprint, as the coupé version was known, managed to convey a refined, sporting air that still looks fabulous nearly six decades on. Answering criticism that the 2000 lacked power, Alfa’s engineers developed a new six-cylinder engine, a reworking of the big four, and the over-square motor had a total capacity of 2,584cc with twin overhead camshafts, a raised compression of 9:1 and triple carburettors. With a healthy 145bhp available, the new power unit was capable of propelling the 2600 Sprint to a top speed of 125mph (200 km/h). The styling of the Sprint was little-altered, only the air scoop on the bonnet and ‘2600’ badging setting it apart from the four-cylinder version. Although built in comparatively small numbers, the 2600 Sprint was actually the most successful of the 2000/2600 family, with 6,999 finding homes worldwide and it has become historically significant as the last Alfa Romeo to have been fitted with an inline, six-cylinder engine topped with twin overhead camshafts, the traditional Alfa Romeo engine configuration since the 1920s.Manufactured on 21st May 1963, this is a superb example of these rare Alfas and is finished in an attractive shade of Cobalt Blue with burgundy leather seating, complementing wine-red interior trim and sky blue carpets. It was delivered new to South Africa in left-hand drive before eventually arriving in the UK in 2014. The subject of an earlier, photo-documented restoration, this particular Alfa has clearly passed through caring hands and remains in excellent, corrosion-free condition throughout. It has recently been serviced including a brake overhaul and will be offered with a fresh MOT issued prior to our sale. Your early inspection is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate this eminently useable, four-seat classic. The 2600 Sprint is a wonderful 1960s Italian GT and represents superb value when compared with contemporary exotics from Maserati and Ferrari.SpecificationMake: ALFA ROMEOModel: 2600Year: 1963Chassis Number: AR822146Registration Number: LDS 522ATransmission: ManualDrive Side: Left-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 57474 MilesMake: LHDInterior Colour: Red HideClick here for more details and images

A low ownership, low mileage Supercharged XKR immaculately presented and correctly maintained - Offered Without Reserve.Offered here is a supercharged Jaguar XKR that was supplied new to the UK and first registered in December 2006. It was thoughtfully specified in Platinum Silver Metallic with an Ivory extended-leather interior, a timeless colour combination that suits the profile of the XKR perfectly. Since delivery in 2006, the Jaguar has had just two previous keepers and the speedometer indicated only 38,414 miles at the time of cataloguing. The condition of this example can only be described as remarkable, and belies the mileage shown on the speedometer. The paintwork gleams across the entire bodywork, the panel gaps are uniform and all trim presents beautifully. The interior shows only minimal wear including the driver’s seat, and the cabin feels clean and fresh. In fact it’s a fabulous place to be. The car has formed part of a private collection for the last five years and has been dry stored correctly in a humidity and temperature-controlled storage facility. The large alloy wheels are immaculate, and the brake calipers also present well, peeping through the alloy spokes. On test, the supercharged V8 fired into life on-the-button, sounding keen and healthy, and on the road the car felt well planted, swift, comfortable and purposeful.Accompanying the Jaguar is a history file that contains the original Jaguar book-pack with a fully-stamped service book showing 13 stamps, all from Jaguar main agents, with paper invoices to support, the most recent being March 2022 at 38,792 miles. The file also contains old MOT Certificates to help corroborate the indicated mileage and the current V5C is ready for transfer or export. The appropriate registration number, M444 XKR, does form part of the sale and will remain on the car.Undoubtedly the best example currently available, presented in classic colours with unquestionable provenance, sensible mileage and relatively low ownership. This is a modern classic Jaguar with design cues from the iconic Jaguar E-Type and fitted with a glorious supercharged power unit – rare to find in such lovely order.SpecificationMake: JAGUARModel: XKRYear: 2006Chassis Number: SAJAC43R179B11485Registration Number: M444 XKRTransmission: AutomaticDrive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 38414 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: IvoryClick here for more details and images

A well-presented later example with 3.2-litre engine, recent clutch and excellent weather equipment.Testing a Lagonda 3-Litre in 1929, The Motor marvelled at the flexibility of the engine (capable of accelerating from 5mph to 80mph in top gear) and stated that it was “difficult to imagine a car nearer an ideal than one which combines the full performance of a speed model with the top gear performance of the best modern touring car.” Sentiments echoed by Motor Sport who declared the 3-Litre to be “a very pleasant car of very high quality and possessing that indefinable but very definite character which stamps the thoroughbred in every walk of life.”  In total, some 580 3-Litre models were made before it was replaced in 1934 by the new M45 (with the improved ZMBS chassis and Meadows 4.25 6ESC engine) and it's thought that only around 150 survive today.Delivered new to a customer in Victoria, Australia, this 1934 3.2-litre Lagonda was originally fitted with ST24A saloon coachwork. It was owned by the Williams family and would have been a very expensive purchase back then. By the late 1940s, it was in the hands of Bill Brooks who sold it to Don Frazer in Adelaide in 1961 who ran an engineering business. It was he who rebodied the car in its current form, a sporting four-seat tourer using the original scuttle, bonnet and wings. He kept it until 1972, passing it to Gordon Lindsay who was to enjoy the car for another few years before it moved to Tasmania to a new owner Bart Hutchings. He soon sent it to local restorer Nigel Grace for attention, the bodywork being refurbished and repainted green with black wings – the livery it wears today.A change of hands again and a trip to New Zealand followed, before arriving back in the UK in 1989 when it was registered MSU 895. Our vendor is a stalwart of the VSCC and knowledgeable Lagonda enthusiast and since purchasing the 3-Litre in 2005 he has enjoyed it very much and has kept on top of care and maintenance. Around three years ago, the door cards were retrimmed and a new hood and tonneau fitted, along with some restoration of the sidescreens and, in May 2020 he had a new clutch fitted, the invoice remaining on file for the parts from the Lagonda Club. It also comes with a copy handbook, manual and a 'Buff' logbookDescribed by our vendor as in nice but not concours condition, it runs and drives really well and looks to be a good usable example with attractive coachwork and decent performance.SpecificationMake: LAGONDAModel: 3-LITREYear: 1934Chassis Number: Z10888Registration Number: MSU 895Transmission: ManualEngine Number: 2637Drive Side: Right-hand DriveMake: RHDInterior Colour: Green LeatherClick here for more details and images

A North American M3, first registered in the UK on 14th April 1989, now fitted with Evolution cosmetic additions, supplied with service book, V5C and recent main dealer service receipts - Offered Without Reserve. The pedigree of the original E30 M3 is obvious all the way from its race-bred four-cylinder engine (designed to rev past 9,000 RPM in race form) and dog-leg five-speed gearbox to those wheel arch blisters specified, not to look cool on the Kings Road, but to accept slick tyres of up to 10” in width. It has a design purity and simplicity of specification that hardly any modern car, and certainly not a new M3 could hope to match. Admittedly today's M3 has double the power but it isn't all about BHP. To really understand the M3 you need to get behind the wheel and drive one, and really drive it. Get hold of it by the scruff of the neck and give it the ‘Full Monty’ and you'll be approaching automotive nirvana.Today the E30 M3 in any of its iterations is a wonderful device, but it's the way the car handles combining brilliantly crisp turn-in with unlikely stability and poise, that truly puts you in the seat of a car that, in its short life won a dozen Touring Car championships across the globe and made it without doubt BMWs finest car ever. The chassis number for this 1988 BMW E30 M3 designates the car for the North American market and it was first registered in the UK on the 14th April 1989 according to the accompanying V5C which also notes that the car was first registered outside of the UK. We cannot confirm if this was in in America or Canada. The service booklet’s maintenance records starts on the 16th July 1996 at 34,551 miles and ends with the most recent service at a main dealer on 31st March 2022 at 64,422 miles. The advisory free MOT Certificate is valid until the 9th March.Fitted with Evolution cosmetic additions at some stage in its life, this car is an ideal base for a restoration back to what we believe is a standard E30 M3. We note areas of corrosion beneath the paintwork which will need to be addressed at some stage. The history file includes dozens of previous MOT Certificates including recent main dealer service receipts, which come to a total of £1,939.32 in March of this year. The private registration, CXI 16, is included in the sale.SpecificationMake: BMWModel: M3Year: 1988Chassis Number: WBSAK0306J2197474Registration Number: CXI 16Transmission: ManualEngine Number: 60044265Drive Side: Left-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 64441 MilesMake: LHDInterior Colour: Black LeatherClick here for more details and images

Superbly presented, this very impressive 2-litre V8 is undoubtedly one of the best we have ever seen.Jaguar’s purchase of Daimler from BSA in 1960 yielded a number of assets, including the powerful and compact 2.5-litre V8 previously used to power the somewhat ungainly SP 250 sports model. Designed by the talented Edward Turner, the refined 90-degree unit produced more power and weighed considerably less than Jaguar’s own 2.4-litre XK unit and, recognising the potential of Turner’s engine, William Lyons and his engineers installed the V8 in the compact Mark 2 saloon to create a car with an entirely different character, one that appealed to an altogether more sophisticated customer. Fed by twin SU carburettors, the engine developed 140bhp, pushing the Daimler to a top speed approaching 112mph, accompanied by a lovely V8 burble through the twin exhausts. Most Daimler 250 V8s were fitted with Borg-Warner’s excellent T35 automatic transmission that nicely complemented the engine's characteristics offering relaxed, effortless performance. The Daimler’s cabin had the ambience of a traditional gentleman’s club, with a walnut-veneered dashboard, full instrumentation, a split bench front seat and West of England headlining. Power steering was commonly specified and most Daimlers came with leather upholstery, even after Jaguar switched to the cheaper Ambla material on the Mark 2 in September 1966.This lovely example is on offer from one of Silverstone's most valued clients, a gentleman whose eye for detail and insistence on accuracy mean that his restoration/refurbishments always attract great interest, in fact, in the last few years two of his cars have achieved figures that were Auction World Records at the time, such was the quality. Dating from 1965, this 2-Litre V8 Saloon is finished in Opalescent Silver Grey with dark blue leather, benefits from power steering and has covered just 28,658 warranted miles from new. It was supplied new by Rippon Bros. to N.F. West & Co. Ltd. in Hospital Fields Road, York and they kept the car until 1978 when it was purchased by Dennis Kenyon of Doncaster. In 1982 Trianco Redfyre Ltd became the third owner and subsequently the late Malcolm Harpin purchased the Daimler in 1985.Recent work includes a complete overhaul of the braking system including new seals, hoses, pipes and discs all round. The cooling system has received attention including a re-cored radiator and the replacement of all hoses, a new exhaust system has been fitted and the fuel system overhauled with a new fuel tank. The indicated mileage is supported by MOT Certificates going back to the 1970s and service invoices from the 1980s. The Daimler appears in superb condition for its age and retains the original interior and carpets which still have the supplying dealer plaque attached and an original Rippon Bros. brochure is in the file. It's in possession of a Heritage Certificate, the current MOT (no advisories) is valid until 23rd September 2023 and the car has been serviced and refreshed in readiness for the sale.A very rare opportunity to buy a beautifully presented Daimler V8 with super low mileage, in outstanding condition and offered at No Reserve.SpecificationMake: DAIMLERModel: 2.5 V8Year: 1965Chassis Number: P1A9592BWRegistration Number: DKU 868CTransmission: AutomaticEngine Number: 7A10188 Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 28658 MilesMake: RHDClick here for more details and images

Lot 618

A late-production SS in a rare colour, from long-term ownership and recently refreshed. Flamboyant 70s Italian styling at its very best.Arguably the most civilised, not to mention usable, of the 70s crop of Italian supercars, Maserati’s stunning mid-engined Merak combined a powerful V6 engine with the practicality of occasional rear seats and a decent-sized boot. Sharing its basic architecture and floorpan with the V8-powered Bora, the Merak was similarly penned by the talented Giorgetto Giugiaro’s Ital Design studio in Turin, but instead of the Bora’s rear clamshell, there was a flat decklid and novel flying buttress arrangement. In a break with tradition, the new Merak was named after a star in the Plough constellation and saw the greatest influence of the Modenese firm’s new relationship with Citroën yet, particularly the 90-degree V6 engine, a unit Maserati originally engineered for the SM. As used in the Merak, the Tipo C114 V6 was bored out from 2,670cc to 2,965cc greatly improving both torque and flexibility. With twin overhead camshafts per bank and fed by triple Weber 42 DCNF carburettors, the alloy V6’s 190 horses were delivered to the rear wheels through the SM’s 5-speed transaxle, while the brakes (discs all round) also used an adaptation of Citroën’s patented hydraulic power-operated system. The interior was typical of Italian exotics from the era, with low-slung seats and plenty of luxury features, while the compact V6 engine allowed a surprising amount of rear passenger space - even the usual Italian offset driving position was largely overcome thanks to a fully adjustable steering wheel and decent seat travel.Competition from Ferrari's new Dino V8 prompted the introduction of a more powerful and lightweight version - the Merak SS (Tipo AM122/A) with 220bhp engine and revised interior - for 1975, ZF transmission being adopted shortly after. The SS was distinguished by a black grille between the pop-up headlights and a Maserati-designed upper fascia with round instruments whilst a four-spoke steering wheel replaced the previous SM-derived interior.Finished in Acapulco Blue with a Magnolia interior, this rare and desirable, original right-hand drive SS has resided with its present owner for the last 30 years and is accompanied by a fully documented history covering that period, noting continual care and maintenance with Bill McGrath Maserati. The odometer indicates a smidge under 50,000 miles and the car has recently benefitted from a mechanical overhaul and body refurbishment and now presents superbly, ready to be used and enjoyed as intended.Revered in period for excellent performance and decent handling, today the Merak remains highly sought-after, especially in right-hand drive form and, with a very short production run of just 300 right-hand drive units, this matching numbers example in a rare colour from long-term ownership is a very special offering indeed. SpecificationMake: MASERATIModel: MERAKYear: 1980Chassis Number: AM122A551Registration Number: HPD 212VTransmission: ManualEngine Number: AM122A551Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 49900 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Magnolia HideClick here for more details and images
