A discoid ceramic wall-mounted plaque with gusset to the border, frontal view of Etchmiadzin Cathedral in low relief; domed panels below, each with an advancing griffin, discoid panel above with Virgin Mary and Infant Jesus; legend to the upper edge '????????? ECHMIADZIN'; ferrous mounting pegs to the reverse. 1.9 kg, 27cm (10 1/2"). Property of a West London gentleman; acquired before 2000. Etchmiadzin Cathedral is the mother church of the Armenian Apostolic Church and the seat of the Catholicos, the supreme head of the Armenian Church. It is in the city of Vagharshapat, Armenia. It is sometimes said to be the first cathedral constructed in Armenia, and the oldest cathedral in the world, founded in the early 4th century AD. [No Reserve]. Fine condition.
