Various woodworm holes, scratches, scuffs, marks, dark marks. May have once been stained a darker colour? Probable replacement parts to the back and underneath the seat. New feet. Various general signs of wear and tear throughout. See images for further details.Chair with turned back supports - approx 130 cm high at the back. Needs new cane back. May have once been stained a darker colour? Cracks and splits to the arms. Possibly old repair? Seat possibly new. Woodworm holes throughout. A late 16th Century (1550-1600) bobbin-turned walnut framed carver chair with green tasselled upholstered seat (a similar example in Parham House, Sussex) CONDITION REPORTS Suspect closer to 1600. Has alterations and some newer parts so wold be 1600 and later to include new front feet and probably new stretchers. Various signs of wear and tear including woodworm holes on various pieces. Wear to the back legs, some losses to the stretchers and to the arms. Various general signs of wear and tear throughout - suggest viewing in person
A late 18th Century oak settle, the six panel back with moulded stiles over swept arms with scroll ends on square tapering supports, the two plank seat raised on plain square legs, 135.5 cm wide CONDITION REPORTS Height at the back approx 145.4 cm. Depth of the seat approx 48 cm. Various splits to the back panels, two repaired sections to the top rail, various woodworm holes throughotut. One arm damaged and in need of attention. Some losses to the seat, a large split to the seat. Woodworm holes to the seat. The whole is very rickety and needs attention. Agricultural repairs to the back. A further repair to thje other arm. Considerable signs of wear and tear throughout.
A pair of 18th Century oak two seat settles, the backs with shaped fielded panels, flanked by open arms on vase turned supports, over a rope-work and canvas seat, raised on cabriole legs to pad feet, 92 cm wide each CONDITION REPORTS First bench with repair to the side on the back panel - see images. Has various losses to the back of the top rail - see images. Some further repairs to the arm. Back legs have got damp and have water damage and possibly, again, repairs. Front legs wirth various repairs. Second bench is in similar condition. Various scatches, scuffs and marks throughout. Some splits and some repairs, including a repair to the front leg. Replaced section to the back. Splits running down the panels. Both benches various general signs of wear and tear throughout. Second bench has a second repair to the back
A Victorian Aesthetic ebonised framed armchair after a design by E W Godwin by Gillow & Co. circa 1875, the upholstered scroll back over a Japanese lattice work style panel and swept arms, the seat with serpentine front rail, raised on five slender turned and ringed supports united by turned and ringed stretchers, the two rear legs stamped "Gillow & Co.", 56 cm wide x 72 cm high CONDITION REPORTS Upholstery, in all likelihood, not original, though in sound condition. Ebonising throughout with wear to the extremities, particularly i.e. edges, especially to the arms. Of the five legs, two have serious breaking and repairs, one with a metal straight bracket with three screws - see image. Another mended with dowel. Both split right through. Gillow & Co stamp to one leg. Wear to the feet - again see images. Several dents, knocks and scratches throughout conducive with age and use
