Introduced in 1923, the Curtiss P-1 Hawk was America's best known single-seat fighter of the era between the two world wars. Le Corbusiers Vorstellung entsprach dabei einer sparsamen und zweckmäßigen Ausstattung. Ende 1927 trat Charlotte Perriand dem Studio bei, und man entwarf gemeinsam verschiedene Möbeltypen. Gundlach, Hamburg - Amerikanisches Designerpaar, das mit seinen funktionalen Entwürfen die Geschichte des Nachkriegsdesigns maßgeblich prägte. Charles Eames studierte zunächst Architektur in St. Louis und eröffnete 1930 sein eigenes Architekturbüro, lehrte ab 1940 Design an der Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan. 1941 Heirat mit Ray Kaiser, die ein Studium der Malerei absolvierte. Ab 1946 Herstellung von Eames-Möbelentwürfen durch die Firma Hermann Miller in Zeeland, Michigan, und Bau des legendären 'Eames House', ab 1957 Zusammenarbeit mit Vitra. 1964-65 war das Paar verantwortlich für den IBM-Pavillon auf der Weltausstellung in New York. Gebrüder Thonet. Paar Armlehnsessel Model 209. Wien, nach 1919. Buchenbugholtz, dunkel gebeizt. Geschwungenes Gestell aus Rundholz mit leicht ausgestellten Beinen. Sitzfläche aus Rohrgeflecht (später erneuert). Gebrauchsspuren. H. 75 cm, B. 54 cm, T. 57 cm, Sitz-H. 46 cm. - Provenienz: Sammlung F.C. Gundlach, Hamburg. - Die Firma Thonet zählt zu den ältesten Möbelherstellern der Welt und produziert seit 1819 Möbel in höchster Qualität, der Durchbruch gelang Michael Thonet 1853 mit dem Stuhl Nr. 14, dem berühmten Wiener Kaffeehausstuhl. Die frühen Bugholz- und Stahlrohrmöbel von Thonet gelten als Ikonen der Designgeschichte. Neben dem Wiener Stammsitz produzierte Thonet in tschechischen, polnischen und ungarischen Werken, seit 1890 auch in Frankenberg in Hessen, nach Kriegszerstörung 1953 Errichtung der Thonet GmbH in Frankenberg. Attische rotfigurige Lekythos. 5. Jh. v. Chr. Terrakotta. Form mit zylindrischem Korpus. Eine junge Frau in Chiton und Himation vor einem Sitzmöbel, in den ausgestreckten Händen hält sie zwei Schalen, darüber Mäander, auf der Schulter ein Fries aus alternierenden Palmetten und kleines Zungenband. Rep., best. H. 15 cm, Dm. 6,5 cm, Fuß Dm. 4 cm. - Provenienz: Sammlung F.C. Gundlach, Hamburg, erworben vor 1969 (siehe Abb. in der Zeitschrift 'Brigitte' von 1969). - An Attic Red-figured Lekythos. 5th cent. BC. Terracotta. Form with cylindrical body. A young woman in chiton and himation in front of a seat, holding two bowls in her outstretched hands, meandering above, a frieze of alternating palmettes and small tongue band on her shoulder.
