A George III lacquered longcase clock, with an arched brass dial, with a silvered chapter ring with subsidiary seconds and calendar aperture, inscribed William Ray, Sudbury, with a eight-day movement and striking the hours on a bell, with a ball mounted hood, chinoiserie decorated trunk and door, with weights and pendulum, dial 11.5in., 243cm highCondition report: Case worn, and ball finials damaged. Dial and movement appears to have been cleaned.It appears to have originally been black, rather than a deep red or green. The case is structurally in a good order. There are losses/flaking sections to the lacquer. The seat board and case do not show obvious signs of adjustment, such as additional timbers, which suggests they may be original.

18th century 30 hour longcase clock by John Garland, Cuckfield with brass square dial striking on bell in chinoiserie decorated black lacquered case (later decorated). 190cm high - pendulum and weight present.Condition report: General overall condition good, movement is dirty and we are unable to confirm if it is in full working order. Seat board has been glued in place but movement appears original. Dial has been cleaned, silvering on chapter ring has been removed and some of numerals have been retouched, matted centre has a mark to right side. Case is in good condition, some evidence of filled old wood worm, and has been renovated, decoration has been retouched. Hood is good, one side glass is cracked and there is a chip to the inside of the door glass.
