A PAIR OF 17TH CENTURY STYLE OAK BENCHES (2)Each on cup and cover supports, united by perimeter stretcher, 184cm wide; 46cm highDepth of seat is 29cm across The width of the bench from from the other edge of the foot across to the other foot is 179cm in length, and the top is 184cm as stated. They are in good condition.. There is some colour variation to the top consistent with age and use. Otherwise they are of strong construction with no damage or breaks. They are in good condition.

IN THE MANNER OF GEORGE SMITH; A DOUBLE HUMP-BACK SOFAOn turned ebonised supports, 180cm wide; 86cm highCondition report: The fabric requires replacing, as can been seen - it’s worn and torn. The cushions appear to be feather filled. The depth from the back edge of the sofa at the furthest point to the front edge of the seat (excluding the protruding cushion) is 110cm. The depth from the outside of the back edge of the seat to the front edge is 83 cm, and including protruding cushion is 100cm The depth internally from the seat back (not including the cushion cavity) to the front edge 64cm and including the protruding cushion is 75cm approx. The frame is solid, no wobble to the arms. Legs and castors are good. The back and cushions are feather filled. Needs recovering.

The leather covering is very worn with more tears towards one end. Missing patera to the side corner block. The frame with the inevitable and numerous scuffs, dents and marks commensurate with considereable wear, use and age. Some small losses to edges and corners. Worm holes in areas, notably the seat rails and other parts. Loss to the gilding and gesso ground with missing mounts to the corners of the seat fram, as can be seen in the images. The castle and knight relief carved panel appears to be later and associated The carving the uppermost crest and other areas could be 19th Century in a historical manner. We strongly suggest this chair is viewed and potential buyers can satisfy themselves. The inevitable scuffs, knocks and subsequent small losses, scratches, some shrinkage and general heavy wear over the years. Some old worm in areas. The seat with later blocks to the underside to secure. Possibly the carving to the top crest is later embellished. Some shrinkage to the relief carved panel depicting the knight.
A MATCHED SET OF NINE GILT-METAL MOUNTED EBONISED DINING CHAIRS, FOUR EARLY 19TH CENTURY AND FOUR LATER (9)On sabre supports, including a pair of carvers, four stamped ‘GEE’, probably by John GeeCondition report: Four chairs are stamped to the underside of the front rail ‘GEE’, probably for John Gee. The other four not stamped and later. All earlier chairs later re-caned. Two later examples with holes to the front of the caning, where it meets the seat rail. The with sagging cane and a hole at the front. Another double caned. The four that are stamped have greater wear and age in comparisons to the unstamped four; various small dents and knocks, notably to the fronts of the seat rails.. One with a repaired break to the upright of the back. General scuffs, dents and knocks to the surfaces, with the odd light worm holes. One arm-chair with metal brackets to support the side rails; repaired joint to the side rails and front legs. The metal roundels are tarnished. General wear, rubbing and scuffs to the ebonising. Seat height without cushion 44cm, seat height without cushion 48cm.
A CHARLES II OAK SINGLE CHAIRWith double carved arch back over solid seat on bobbin turned supports the front rail stamped IB 49cm wide; 106cm highCondition report: The joints are relatively solid although there is a slight movement to the back when slight force is applied. The solid plank seat with a little shrinkage and a hole to the front left corner and other loss. Please see additional images on www.bellmans.co.uk.Otherwise the inevitable scuffs, rubbed areas, signs of wear, old chips and losses including a small section of split beaded moulding to the upright and the scroll finial of the upright on the left side. Wear to feet. Dirt and dust.

Arms move when force is applied, eventually might need reinforcing but fine for now. The fabric is cram with a pattern. Unable to identify precisely but believe it to be cotton with a synthetic blend.

Various scuffs, scratches, knocks and dents to the seats and frames, as to be expected with use and age.The paintwork is worn and chipped to the legs, with some opening up of the joints at the side, where the legs meet. Some tarnishing and verde gris to the metal screws securing the seat to the frame.Please see additional images.

One with leather seat and back, but with numerous holes and losses. The other with back pad with numerous losses. Repair to the top of one chair, visible at the back and horizontal line visible from the front. Constructional joints to x frame legs and arms visible. Pegs joining the top of the arms to the frame visible. Relatively sturdy frames, finials would benefit from tightening to arms. No apparent or obvious signs of worm. One arm has been resecured and the other a little loose. The one with re-covered seat but retaining the leather covered back pad. The other missing this back pad and the supporting rail. Wear and loss to the leather. Some shrinkage to timber, general chips and losses to some of the extremities and frame,, wear and rubbing commensurate with use and age. An oak eight day longcase clock, the arched silvered automaton dial engraved 'Matthews Leighton', striking the hour, with reeded columns to the hood and a plain case, 238cm highCondition report: Pendulum and weights, Case with splits and wear. Good overall colour. Height excluding finials – 225cm.The section where the seat board sits has been reinforced/altered, suggesting they movement is possibly associated with the clock. The trunk door is not warped. The base appears to have been cut down with a plinth added at a later stage. Please see additional images.
