A 19th century yew and ash hoop back Windsor elbow chair, with a pierced splat over a shaped seat raised upon turned baluster legs united by a crinoline cross stretcher, 100cm highCR; Piece shows a split to one side of the back rail (later repaired) and a repair to the lower part of the central splat. The central splat is slightly loose. There is evidence of repair to the arm rest where it meets the front turned baluster. The front balusters may be later. The back legs are slightly loose, but the chair is stable overall. The seat shows a natural crack through a large knot, and a split with consequential differential dropping to the back left corner. There is a further split to the front right corner, above the leg, but this does not appear to effect the structure of the chair.
A harlequin set of sixteen George IV style mahogany dining chairs, by Maple & Co, circa 1925, each with a concave top rail, moulded with channelled and scrolled detail, above an interlaced rail and a green Regency stripe stuff-over seat, raised upon sabre legs, to include two carver chairs, 85cm high, metal makers label to the underside of three chairs, all chairs with later blocks to the underside (16) (at fault) PROVENANCE; by repute the chairs were made for LLoyds Bank, India Building, Liverpool, circa 1925Condition reportAll chairs have later blocks added to the underside of the seats, indicating that all have undergone some level of restoration.One chair has a damaged back rail (see additional image).All chairs have extensive scuffs and marks to the legs with some showing discolouration and light blistering to the finish.Chairs appear firm with little or no play in the joints.
