Voll verbeinter gotischer Sattel im Stil des 15. Jhdts., Italien, 19. Jhdt. Hölzerner Sattel, die Oberseite ganzflächig mit fein geschnitztem und graviertem Bein belegt. Auf der Sitzfläche die Darstellung eines Paares in italienischer Renaissancetracht, die Brustportraits jeweils von einem Blattkranz gerahmt. Der Sattelknauf beidseitig mit einem runden Kreuzmotiv, in den Feldern jeweils ein heraldischer Adler. Die Seiten mit erhabenem Rankendekor verziert, am unteren Rand umlaufend Tritonen und Meermenschen im antikisierenden Stil. Die Unterseite mit alter Bespannung aus Seide, verblichen, stellenweise verschlissen. Maße 38 x 52 x 38 cm.Aufwändig gearbeitete Replik des Historismus. In dieser Art haben sich mehrere vergleichbare Sättel in bekannten internationalen Sammlungen erhalten, so z.B. ein Exemplar in den Royal Armouries (Inv. VI.95), oder ein weiterer Sattel in der Sammlung des Boston Museums of Fine Arts (69.944).Zustand: II -An Italian Gothic saddle with lavish bone veneer in 15th century style, 19th century The entire upper surface of the wooden saddle veneered in finely carved, engraved bone. The seat with a depiction of a couple in traditional Italian Renaissance attire, the half-length portraits each framed by a wreath of leaves. The saddle pommel with a circular cross motif on both sides, a heraldic eagle in each of the fields. The sides adorned with raised decorative tendrils, a border of antique-style Tritons and mermaids at the lower edge. The underside covered in old silk, the lining faded and worn in places. Dimensions 38 x 52 x 38 cm.An elaborate historicism era replica. Several similar style saddles can still be found in famous international collections, e.g. one object in the Royal Armouries (Inv. VI.95), or another saddle in the collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts (69.944).Condition: II -

A GROUP OF THREE ENGLISH ENAMEL 'COUNTRY SEAT' PATCH BOXES, SOUTH STAFFORDSHIRE, LATE 18TH CENTURY / EARLY 19TH CENTURY one oval lid decorated with a view of Holland House in Kent titled 'KINGS-GATE' showing the house, castle and 'Convent' above pale green lobed sides, one pointed oval painted with a view titled 'Broadlands L'd Palmerston' above a pink waisted body and one oval decorated with a view titled 'Woburn Abbey the Seat of the Du. of Bedford' above a beige-pink waisted body 5.5cm longest Holland House at Kingsgate Bay between Margate and Broadstairs was built between 1762-68 for Henry Fox, 1st Baron Holland (see lot 374 for an enamel box with an early caricature of Fox). The flintstone eye-catcher folly 'Kingsgate Castle' was used as a stableblock, the 'Convent' (orginally intended for Anglican nuns) as overflow accommodation for the main house.
WW2 Royal Air Force No 110 Squadron 1945 Casualty Medal Group, the group was awarded to Pilot (86719) Flight Lieutenant Alan John, who was killed when his Mosquito aircraft crashed on returning from a mission against Japanese targets at Natkyi. Group consists of 1939-45 star, Burma star, Defence medal and 1939-45 War medal, all un-named as issued. The medals are housed in the original OHMS forwarding box addressed to his father in Cardiff. Accompanying the medals is the original casualty forwarding slip, medal entitlement slip, photograph of him in uniform, pair of padded pilots wings with his name inked to the reverse, an observers brevet wing, RAF sweetheart brooch and a gold filled engraved identity bracelet. On 1st June 1945, Flight Lieutenant Alan John was the pilot of a Mosquito (RF589 P), the aircraft took off from RAF Yelahanka, India. Four mosquito aircraft were tasked with attacking Japanese targets at Natkyi. During the attack John’s aircraft was hit by flak in the right engine. He managed to guide the aircraft back to Mingalon airfield, in Burma, the plane was forces to crash land, with the aircraft nose being buried into the ground, forcing the aircraft to flip over. Flight Lieutenant John was killed instantly when he broke his neck by hitting the bullet proof shield behind his seat, the navigator Sergeant Norman Keighley, was badly injured in both legs, resulting in both eventually having to be amputated. Flight Lieutenant John is buried at Rangoon War Cemetery.
