A Biba chevron-striped knitted jersey ensemble, circa 1973-75, printed satin art nouveau label, in shades of brown, the jacket with lightly padded shoulders and trimmed with velvet, matching midi-skirt, bust 92cm, 36in (2) CONDITION REPORT: Good condition. Jacket label has cut in it. One button is detached but we have it. Skirt hem needs re-stitching at one panel (minor) and has small 1cm brown stain to rear seat area.
An Ossie Clark for Radley pink moss crepe dress, 1970s, labelled, together with a Biba yellow moss crepe dress, printed satin label; and a suede patchwork jerkin, busts 86-92cm, 34-36in (3) CONDITION REPORT: ·Ossie Clark has large watermark to lower skirt area, yellow stains to rear seat area, later added ribbon to cuffs and hem. Extremely faint perspiration ring at right underarm. Small mark to collar, otherwise good. ·Biba has been shortened, perspiration stains at underarms, panels of original fabric have been inserted at cuffs and buttons moved in order to make wider, easily reversed.·Suede jerkin - good condition, scalloped patchwork is un-stitched in 2 places
Two striped calico bustle petticoats, 1870s, another in black challis; and a white starched muslin ruffled 'tail' (4) CONDITION REPORT: ·'Emilia' model - good-fair condition, woven grey and black cotton, wear at waistband where drawstring is covered. Waistband has been cut/shortened. Rust marks to X struts at inside hem.·Black challis - overall fair condition. Top metal strut has poked through and a 3cm split in fabric above it and 2cm hole to the sides. The front panels have been narrowed by adding loosely tacked darts (easily unpicked). Corrosion to metal waist hook. Inner cotton closure panel with eyelets - numerous tears and repairs (looks as though it has been heavily used). Centre front challis waist closure - lacking a button and darned repairs, 3 small holes. Rear challis bustle cover with numerous small holes and a couple 2-3cm holes. ·Printed striped cotton with double bustle - overall good condition. Corroded metal waist clip. Striped cotton is generally good, the odd faint yellow discolouration. Inner plain cotton closure panels - one side needs re-stitching along its length (minor), faint yellow stain to this panel at seat area, lacking button at centre front waist, fabric in waistband has pulled/worn at drawstring exits. Rust spot on one boning cover (minor). White muslin lobster-tail - generally good condition, a few scattered rust marks

A Burger Christensen Mongolian lamb coat, 1970s, embroidered makers name to silk lining, with two front pockets; chest approx 102cm, 40in; together with a dyed sheared fur jacket, modern, un-labelled, chest approx 96cm, 38in (2) Provenance: Jane, Lady Abdy CONDITION REPORT: Mongolian lamb coat - grimey from storage, would benefit from cleaning, lining needs re-stitching at neck and front left closure edge, and 20cm down right side seam. Faint stain to lining at seat area. Modern cardigan jacket has soiling to lapels, needs cleaning.
ZOLA EMILE: (1840-1902) French Novelist, Playwright & Journalist, a prominent figure in the Dreyfus Affair. A.L.S., Emile Zola, two pages (separate leaves), 8vo, Paris, 3rd April 1889, to a colleague ('Mon cher confrére'), in French. Zola apologises for not having replied to his correspondent earlier and adds that, instead of disturbing him, it may be simpler to come and see him, enquiring 'Don't you all gather at the seat of the Society of Men of Letters?' and adding 'If yes, please make me an appointment there, at 4pm, on the day that will suit you best, except Thursday and Saturday'. A few minor spots of foxing and some extremely light age wear, otherwise VG
MANUEL II: (1889-1932) King of Portugal 1908-10. The last King of Portugal, whose reign ended with the dissolution of the monarchy in the 5th October 1910 revolution. L.S., Manuel R, six pages, 4to, Fulwell Park, Twickenham, 12th September 1925, to Mr. Greenfield, in French. King Manuel having just received a letter from Mr. Brunner in Germany regarding 'Germany money', due to the Queen and himself under the marriage contract, questions Greenfield, 'The critical question to pose is, under the contract of marriage 28th August 1913, the current money in Germany was gold backed; in the contract it was simply written 52,000 marks without the word gold.' Together with L.S., Stanley S. Greenfield, three pages, 4to, n.p. (London), 17th September 1925, to a Gentleman [King Manuel II], in French. Greenfield informs his correspondent regarding the situation of the 'German money', advising that it is the value of the payments from Germany that are in dispute, the payment needing to be increased due to inflation. He further informs the King the contention of the Prince of Hohenzollern is that the Queen has not benefitted in a financial way from the wishes of her Grandmother, continuing, 'The Princely House of Hohenzollern has not only completely and justly fulfilled its obligations to your Majesty's marriage contract but by the application of the strictest standard and moral respects. The Princely House has been faithful to all its obligations.' Finally advising that the annual payment should be £2,600 and that the best way to seek remedy would be a visit to Sigmaringen. With creasing to the corners and minor age wear, otherwise VG, 2 Stanley S. Greenfield, Director of Coutts & Co., Private Bank, London. He managed the affairs of many crowned and ex-crowned heads of Europe. Sigmaringen, from 1806 to 1849 the capital of the sovereign Principality Hohenzollern and residence of the princes of Hohenzollern. From 1850 to 1945 Sigmaringen was the seat of Prussian Government for the Province of Hohenzollern.

L.S., Manuel R, eight pages, 8vo, Schloss Sigmaringen, Germany, 8th November 1927, to Mr. Greenfield, in French. King Manuel informs his correspondent that he has reached an understanding with William, Prince of Hohenzollern, and that the annual payment of 40,000 marks will be increased to 48,000 marks until the 1st June 1930. Further adding that the King and Queen will be travelling to Munich and then on to Paris, before returning to Fulwell on the 23rd November 1927. Together with, L.S., Stanley S. Greenfield, two pages, 4to, n.p. (London), 10th May 1923, to a Gentleman [King Manuel II], in French. Greenfield writes to his correspondent in a state of anxiety regarding the health of King Manuel's uncle during a visit to London. Greenfield stating that he had called the specialist that had seen him four years previous. The specialist advising that his uncle would be better off at home yet had refused to leave. Continuing, Greenfield informs the King that the Duc de Vendome had arrived, that the Duc de Montpensier was due very soon, and that he awaits the arrival of Queen Amelie. Fitted with electric lights front and back, button back upholstered leather child's seat, within a brass frame, dummy fuel gauge and speedometer with working brake and accelerator, curved brass fenders with wicker picnic basket, (127 x 80 x 61cm).
