A small archive of material relating to the London 1948 Olympic Games, believed to have originally been from the office of Arthur Elvin the owner of Wembley Stadium and including a copy of a letter from him dated 18th May 1948 writing to Lord Portal expressing his dismay of a poorly organised athletics meeting at White City which had been billed beforehand as a “Pre Olympics Games Try-Out’, thereby giving pressmen a field day, the archive mostly of press cuttings but also Olympic Bulletins, a forecast for lost ticket revenues at Wembley Stadium through the issue of complimentary seat tickets to dignitaries, competitors, press, BBC, choir and bands, calculated to be a loss of potential revenue through ticket sales of £41,293; also a general regulations programme
Chinese rosewood swivel office/desk chair, the vertical splat centred with a marble tablet, scroll arms and ovoid seat, on four legs Adjustable height mechanism, one arm is a bit wobbly, as is the seat. The other arm has an old repair, the carving on the back is intact top rail joints repaired part of foot missing
A rare early 20th C German-made WW1 style tinplate military lorry. A clockwork example, maker uncertain but probably by Heyde. 15.5cm long in olive green with open back, similar coloured wheels and light brown painted tyres, silver steering wheel RHD, short black running boards, plain radiator grille. Bench seat contains 2 men 4cm high in dark blue uniforms with red lining, nationality unknown. Two Heyde style German lead Soldiers secured on pins to cab. Back houses a 6cm adjustable/removable cannon with spring-loaded firing mechanism and 10 x 3cm bolts as ammunition. Light green base, stamped “Germany” to rear. GC to VGC. See illustration.
A 1960’s MoBo Toys/Tri-ang child’s pedal car in the style of a period F.1 Ferrari. Of plastic monocoque construction with metal steering and connecting rods to pedals, black plastic steering wheel, moulded black pvc seat, dummy V8 engine with trumpets and twin exhausts. Finished in red with yellow nose, yellow wheels with black tyres. RN7. GC for age, some marking from use, slightly faded to top surface.
A scarce Jep clockwork tinplate car French made clockwork tinplate sedan, possibly a 1940s Delahaye, no. 7575. Vehicle is 13" in length in deep red with silver chassis. Features opening driver’s side front door, front bench seat, black operating steering wheel (RHD), metal wheels with yellow trim and black tyres, battery-operated front lights, authentic plated bumpers, registration 7585 JEP. GC, some chipping, corrosion to metalwork, motor and lights not tested. See illustration.
