A set of ten Regency carved rosewood dining chairs, circa 1815, almost certainly by Gillows, profusely carved throughout, the pair of armchairs with carved acorn and oak leaf brackets and klismos-shaped backs, each with green velvet upholstered drop-in seats, one stamped 'K' to the seat rail. A set made by Gillows (attributed to the London shop) of very closely relating design exists in the Tatton Park collection, Cheshire. This design was in use by 1813 as it appears in two room settings drawn for customers by Gillows of Oxford Street of this date. See pages 220 and 221, Plate 203 and 355, Plate E 16. Gillows of Lancaster and London, 1730 - 1840, Susan E. Stuart, Published by Antique Collectors Club. Elements of the carving to these chairs bear close relation to furniture supplied by Gillows to the 2nd Baron Bolton for Hackwood in 1813. The reeded leg with a carved ball knop above and volute scrolls to the arm are similar to a pair of rosewood library bergeres sold by Christie's Hackwood Park sale, 20th-22nd April 1998, Lot 55.
