A set of four MEWA `Landi` aluminium chairs designed by Hans Coray, early/mid 20th century, the slightly raking back and seat with rows of seven pierced circles, the legs and handles one shaped piece, on rubber feet, height 76 cm, (4). Note: Designed for the 1939 Swiss National Exhibition "Landesausstellung"; hence, it is called the Landi chair. The design was created for a competition sponsored by the aluminum manufacturers organization with the goal of looking for alternate uses for the material. The Landi chair was produced by the company, MEWA and is considered to be the forefather, a pioneer, of modern aluminum chairs.
