Folio (282x205 mm). 17 unnumbered leaves. Collation: I12 II4+1.The manuscript, on paper, is made overall of 91 unnumbered leaves written only on the right column, the left column being reserved to the notes. This could be a copy destined to the typography. None of the dissertations however has apparently been published. Light marginal foxing and staining. Contemporary cardboards, inked title on spine. Minor losses and some stain. Slightly loose. The Academy of Roman Antiquities was established in 1740 by Pope Benedict XIV as a restoration of the famous fifteenth-century academy of Pomponius Leto. It had its first seat in the Campidoglio and soon afterwards in the Quirinale Palace, and its sessions were frequently attended by the pontiff. Of its activity there is little evidence in some publications such as the Argomenti de' discorsi da farsi, in essa come nelle altre accademie di Benedetto XIV (Rome, Collini, 1740-1753) and the Dissertazioni sopra vari punti interessanti d'Historia Romana dell'Abate Gaetano Cenni (Pistoia 1778-1779). After Benedict XIV's death, it seems that the Academy, like others established by him, has ceased to exist. Philipps Sale ms. 6183; Guildford sale, Dec. 1830, 627.
