Frans De La Balle, London, Mid-18th century 8-day lacquered longcase, with brass arched dial, season figure spandrels, subsidiary seconds and date aperture, four pillar movement striking on bell, chinoiserie lacquered case with glass lenticle, 227 cm high-pendulum and two brass weights presentCondition report: General overall condition is reasonable, movement is five pillar not four and is dirty, we are unable to confirm if it is in full working order. Dial has been polished at some time and is held in place against the cheeks with two screws and washers. Case surface has either been in the heat or overpainted with shellac or something similar, much of original decoration is present but covered, there is some damage to lacquer in places. Case door lenticle has been replaced. Top hinge on hood is broken. The movement on the seat board sits very low in the hood and in our opinion, may not be original to the case. Photographs to follow.
