An antique and later carved box seat settle, the back profusely carved with coat of arms and central panel depicting a hunting scene entitled 'Castor and Pollyx Hunting ye Deer', further inscribed 'Charles and Dorothea Halina Stanley, above coat of arms and inscribed to the lower frieze '1663 Drede God and Honour thy Kynge', the uppermost pillars inscribed 'Chs 2D Rex' (Charles II), believed to have come from the Earl of Derby's Estate at Knowsley Hall, width 103cm, height 145cm, depth 49cm. CONDITION REPORT Overall good but used condition with fading to the stain in the high-traffic areas, most prominently the arms and the bench seat. The bench seat has been replaced and is stained pine. The arms and the arm supports are more than likely later additions or replacements. The carved panel back has a split through the lower coat of arms and has a small patch repair to the upper right pillar. There is a hole just below the hunting scene, although it is most likely to be a knot which has come out of the timber. Rear left leg shows signs of old woodworm damage and the lower most stretcher is coming away from the upright slightly on the front right leg. There is a very small chip to the top rail. Please refer to illustrations.
