A rare mid 18th century mahogany naval Campaign chair, upholstered with brown studded leather, the hinged seat above a folding base, c.1765, together with a later copy. (2) Provenance: Purchased from W. R. Harvey Antiques, Witney, Oxon in 1998. The Collection of the Late P. J. Rankin. A late George II Irish mahogany side chair, the top rail carved with leaves above a pierced splat with a central 'X' shape, above a stuffed-over seat, the legs with corner brackets, together with a George II mahogany side chair on cabriole legs and pad feet and a George III side chair with a padded back and seat. A George II Irish mahogany side chair, the top rail centred a shell above a vase shaped splat carved with leaves and florets, above a bell shaped drop-in seat on shell capped cabriole legs and paw feet united by wavy stretchers. Provenance: Bought from Paul Cooke Antiques, 1989. The Collection of the Late P.J. Rankin. See The Knight of Glin and James Peill, Irish Furniture, p.208 for a similar chair.
A pair of Queen Anne style walnut side chairs, each with a scroll top rail above a shaped solid splat inlaid with banding, above a drop-in seat, with a shell centred frieze and shell capped cabriole legs and pad feet, possibly Irish, together with two 18th century needlework seat covers that were originally covering the drop-in seats. An early 20th century pair of Louis XVI style walnut fauteuils, the tall rectangular backs with long moulded down curving arms with leaf capped scrolling hand holds, a deep seat on reeded serpentine legs joined by a shaped and reeded stretcher on scroll feet, covered with floral velvet embossed upholstery and a small matching footstool (3).
