An English tapestry fragment, probably Soho, mid 18th century woven with a central bunch of flowers and foliage on a red ground, contained within an elaborate surrounding architectural stirrup, with surrounding foliage and brightly feathered birds on a dark blue ground, possibly previously seat furniture upholstery, now on a wooden support h.58 cm., w.122 cm.
An Charles II walnut cane back child's armchair, circa 1680 with a carved arched top rail above a caned back and seat supported by elongated legs which terminate in 'Braganza' feet There is a comparable example at Clevedon Court, Somerset (without 'Braganza' feet) which is illustrated by Ralph Edwards, The Dictionary of English Furniture, Vol.1, pg.314, fig.3. Edwards writes that due to the fragility of the materials used and the hard wear demanded of such chairs, examples are seldom found in perfect condition.
