William Bertram & Son of London - pair late 19th century giltwood armchairs, moulded frame with scroll carved back and arm terminals, upholstered in striped fabric with foliate pattern, on shell carved cabriole supports, the brass castors stamped "Bertram & Son 100 Dean St W."Bertram, William; Bertram & Son of London; upholsterer, looking glass maker, carver, gilder and cabinet maker (fl.1839-1902). From 1878 the business was listed as Bertram & Son at 100 & 101 Dean Street, Soho. This change in business dates these chairs to between 1878 and 1902. A set of four Regency rosewood and brass inlaid dining chairs, each having bar backs, scroll moulded centre rails and stuffover seats, all raised spiral reeded and ring turned tapering forelegs, seat w.48cmAll four with signs of old woodworm to back seat supports.First chair – good but with faded repir to top rail moulding, chip to frieze moulding.Second chair – chip to moulding to right of the seat.Third chair – orangey coloured repair to the right of the top rail, split to left of top rail.Fourth chair – generally ok.These chairs were clearly in a sorry state at one point and someone has done some clever restoration. The restoration is now a slightly different colour to the original timber. Otherwise they are of excellent quality.
A circa 1700 oak joint stool, the top having a moulded edge above a plain frieze, on ring turned and knopped supports united by low square stretchers, w.47cm, d.28cm, h.56cmThis has signs of potentially live woodworm. The seat has a split emerging. It is heavily discoloured and has a large old chip to one edge. There is a 4" water mark to one leg.
A set of four Victorian elm seat and yew wood Windsor chairs, each having pierced vase splatbacks, dish seats and crinoline stretchersSeat heights 43cm.The back heights vary from 85-87cm. Arms 57cm wide. One has a heat mark to the seat. One seat has splits emerging. Another is rather scratched. They all have little knocks or marks in various places but in general they are clean, well polished, of good quality and in good order.

A pair of George III style green leather wing armchairs, 20th century, of compact form, with button upholstered backs and hob-nailed armrests, 95cm high (2)Condition reportThe pair of chairs is in generally good condition. The frames appear strong and apart from minor surface scratches to the feet are fine. There is an old repair under one seat cushion. See further images. The cushions have slight wear as you would expect from some usage but look pretty good. The images make it look perhaps worse than reality and I have highlighted the worst part of one chair.
