This one was signed by him, allowing the admission of his twelve-year-old nephew and ward, Gerald Wellesley, to the box of the First Marquess Conyngham, the Lord High Steward of the Royal Household, in Poets' Corner.Gerald Wellesley (1809-1882) was the son of Lady Charlotte Wellesley who was then married to the Duke of Wellington's brother Henry. Soon after Gerald's birth his mother ran off with Wellington's future second in command at Waterloo, Lord Henry Paget and Henry Wellesley refused to acknowledge the child as his own. The Duke and Duchess of Wellington took Gerald into their home and brought him up as their own son. At the time of the Coronation Gerald was in his first year at Eton. After studying at Trinity College, Cambridge, he entered the church, becoming domestic chaplain to Queen Victoria in 1849, and was Dean of Windsor from 1854 until his death in 1882.
