The Property of The Finnis Scott Foundation. Circle of Horatio McCulloch, RSA (British, 1805-1867), Edinburgh from the Glasgow Road, oil on panel, 26 x 44cm (10.14 x 17.16in). Provenance: Sabin Galleries, London, where bought by Sir David Scott, 17 August 1974 for no. 385 (as by Sam Bough). This extensive panorama of Edinburgh shows a number of the principal monuments and buildings from a vantage point on the road to Glasgow. The centre right of the composition is dominated by Castle Hill, with Arthur's Seat and Holyrood Palace to the right. The Gothic crown of St. Giles's Cathedral can be seen to the left of Edinburgh Castle and beyond is the spire of the Tron Church. Between these two landmarks lies the Royal Mile. To the distant left stand some of the monuments at Carlton Hill, including most prominently Nelson's Monument of 1806-15

Berkshire, who married Miss Elizabeth Berkley in 1767, with shaped gadrooned rims and scratched number and weight to base of eleven, made by Sebastian & James Crespell, London, 1766/67, one made by William Sharp, London, 1819, 9.25in, 217 oz.
