The Great Train Robbery - Ronnie Biggs (1929-2013) - a collection of x4 A4 autographed photographs of Biggs, each with crude captions. Includes a photoshopped image of Biggs alongside Jack Straw, one titled ' A Great Night Out At The Jack Mills Head ', one 'Up The Queen' and another makes use of the famous press photograph 'The Empty Seat'. Each signed in black marker to light areas by Ronnie. All obtained personally by the vendor. The Great Train Robbery was the robbery of £2.6 million from a Royal Mail train heading from Glasgow to London on the West Coast Main Line in the early hours of 8 August 1963, at Bridego Railway Bridge, Ledburn, near Mentmore in Buckinghamshire, England. After tampering with the lineside signals in order to bring the train to a halt, a gang of fifteen, led by Bruce Reynolds, attacked the train. Other gang members included Gordon Goody, Buster Edwards, Charlie Wilson, Roy James, John Daly, Danny Pembroke, Jimmy White, Ronnie Biggs, Tommy Wisbey, Jim Hussey, Bob Welch and Roger Cordrey, as well as three men known only as numbers "1", "2" and "3". A 16th man, an unnamed retired train driver, was also present. With careful planning based on inside information from an individual known as "The Ulsterman" (erroneously named as Patrick McKenna in 2014), the robbers escaped with over £2.6 million (equivalent to £53.5 million today). The bulk of the stolen money was never recovered. Though the gang did not use any firearms, Jack Mills, the train driver, was beaten over the head with a metal bar. Mills' injuries were severe enough to end his career. After the robbery, the gang hid at Leatherslade Farm and famously used the money in a game of Monopoly - unwittingly incriminating themselves whilst doing so as the Monopoly set was used to garner finger prints of the suspects and was instrumental in the Police arresting most of the gang. The ringleaders were sentenced to 30 years in jail.

Dean Ellis (American, 1920 - 2009) "John F. Kennedy" Signed lower right. Original Oil painting on Masonite. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original painting which was published on the Fleetwood Commemorative Cover for The Shapers of America series issued in 1987. John Kennedy was already an admired national figure when he was elected to the Presidency in 1960. He had commanded a PT boat in World War II and was decorated for bravery; he served in Congress for three terms; he defeated Henry Cabot Lodge in 1952 for a seat in the Senate; then won the Presidency by the narrowest majority since 1880. Almost everything about him fired America's imagination. He was the first President born in the twentieth century, the youngest ever to be elected, and the first Catholic to win the Presidency. He brought to his office not only personal charm, but a generous humanitarianism, a political maturity, and a luminous intelligence. Kennedy championed those policies and philosophies which Franklin Roosevelt had inaugurated. He had some success with a program of urban renewal, and with his campaign for a broader interpretation of the "equal protection" clause of the Constitution and the extension of civil rights for Blacks. Around the world Kennedy was viewed as a statesman who combined patience with ardor, compassion with courage, and poetry with power. That is what he had called for in a moving address at Amherst College: "I look forward to a great future for America ... I look forward to an America which will reward achievement in the arts as we reward achievement in business or statecraft ... And I look forward to an America which commands respect throughout the world not only for its strength, but for its civilization as well. Image Size: 18 x 21 in. Overall Size: 24 x 27 in. Unframed.
