A late 19th century leather sofa, with studded decoration, width 67ins Condition report: no tears to the leather but it is worn through along the front seat rail in places and general wear to the whole, cushions not original and the base the cushions sit on not original and would need restoring
A fine early 19th Century mahogany mantle clock With a 15.5cm silvered dial signed Des Granges Cockspur Street, London, with Roman numerals within slender hinged floral leaf brass convex glazed bezel, the twin chain fusee bell striking movement with anchor escapement with rise and fall to the lenticular bob pendulum shouldered back plate with pendulum holdfast screw, the well figured mahogany rectangular case with a cavetto cornice, with a glazed panel door raised upon a plinth base and bracket feet. 26.5x22x13cms with two keys. *** originally purchased from George W Bennett 1966, ex Douglas Hume *** Britten's Old Clocks and Watches and their Makers page 367 records Des Granges, Peter, Successor to Recordon, 33 Cocksper Street, 1816-1942. CONDITION REPORT: Case - The rectangular top very minor shallow crack left hand corner, the front of the case opposite 9 and 3 o'clock stress crack below the right hand hinge to dial crack, stress crack opposite 9 o'clock, minor chipping around the key hole aperture on the side the silvered dial scratching around the winding apertures and some overall scratching to the dial, floral leaf bezel discoloured, damage inside the glazed back door, glass possibly replaced, wood missing where the clock is attached to the left hand upright, back plate not signed, seat board and supports may have had alterations, part of back bracket feet lacking, front bracket foot part replaced, left hand side of front bracket foot missing.
A good early 19th Century mahogany cased longcase clock With a 23cm silvered dial signed John Hill, Covent Gardens, London, with Roman numerals, the two train movement with anchor escapement striking on a saucer bell, the slender well figured mahogany case with a cavetto cornice above a long door, outset cavetto moulding above a fluted panel raised upon a plinth base with two weights, pendulum and winding and door keys. 187cms (illustrated) *** Britten's Old Clocks & Watches and their makers records a John Hill, 15 James Street, Covent Garden 1820. CONDITION REPORT: The case cavetto good condition, hinged door brass roundel may have been replaced, signs of renewed putty around the glass frame, floor to hood back original, the side panel door hinges appear to be original, left of the door three holes one larger and the other two, two small holes at the back of the side, seat board old with other holes and apertures, support members inside case support the dial may have been replaced, unusual fluting, long door no warps, good figure timber, top right hand hinge slightly loose, the panel plinth stress crack at the top approximately 15cms, original plinth, pendulum and two weights and a good quality turned brass handled winder with door key.;
A Fine set of eight George III style mahogany dining chairs With shaped cresting rails above interlaced 'C' scroll vase shape slats with leaf and pounced decoration each with dished tapestry seats raised upon front fluted, bead and reel carved legs, plain outswept rear legs of circular section joined by 'H' stretchers, including two elbow chairs with outswept arms. 89high x seat width 60cms x depth 48cms, and five side chairs 55cms wide x 44cms.
A good set of ten Chippendale style mahogany dining chairs circa 1900 Each with arched leafy cresting rails above pierced quatrefoil and leaf splats stuff-over tapestry seats raised upon front acanthus leaf carved cabriole legs claw and ball feet plain rear legs, eight side chairs 95.5cm x 58cm wide and two conforming elbow chairs 101cm x 62.5cm. (illustrated) CONDITION REPORT: Lot 2141: The elbow chairs - no breaks or repairs, minor surface scratching some wear and scratching to the carving on front legs and to the claw and ball. One of the pair of elbow chairs - strengthening dowel to the back upright where the out swept arm joins. Minor roundel visible from the back no other signs of break or cracking. The side chairs - no breaks surface scratching, one side chair surface scratching to out set rear legs, all seats have a tapestry stuff-over seat all in good condition. Some surface rubbing and scratching to the leafy knees and claw and ball feet.
A Continental three piece drawing room suite Comprising a settee with a shaped back with a leaf and flower cresting with curvilinear padded leaf carved arms leafy apron raised upon five curvilinear legs 91cm x 160cm, conforming elbow chair with a padded back and seat, a conforming open elbow chair (3) and a pair of conforming salon chairs each upholstered with a French tapestry depicting a gallant and his lady in a landscape (5) CONDITION REPORT: Pair of elbow chairs - both with water damaged seats. 3 piece suite good condition, minor rubbing to crestings.
A late 17th early 18th Century oak side chair With a concave leaf carved cresting above a fluted solid splat, board seat raised upon baluster and square section legs joined by a baluster and plain side stretchers. 96cms. CONDITION REPORT: Repairs to the shaped cresting rail the left centre and right hand side with later screws, shrinkage crack to the central splat, original seat, triangular piece missing at the back, seat boards old, difference in the colour of the front boards to the narrow back door possibly 19th century replacements, wear to front turned baluster stretcher, wear to legs but only in relation to age.
