A rhinestone encrusted bicycle customised by Bill Whitten for Sir Elton John and used on stageWith red and silver rhinestone detail to the inner rims of both wheels, mudguards and frame, the handlebars with two rhinestone encrusted mirrors with reflectors, a rhinestone encrusted bell and headlight, a horn, gold glittered handle grips with red streamer ends, a rhinestone encrusted front headlight and a red glittered Schwinn Sting-Ray Banana seat, 177cm wide, 124cm high (70in wide, 49in high) Footnotes:Provenance:Worn onstage by Elton John during his 1974 American tour.Christie's, South Kensington, 16 December 2014, lot 83.This rhinestone encrusted bicycle perfectly represents the flamboyance of Sir Elton John's stage costumes and persona, for which he is so famed and admired. It was used by Elton John on stage during his 1974 American tour as a part of his 'Bicycle John' costume. Today, the corresponding platform boots and costume, which is decorated with a bicycle bell, mudguards, reflectors and handlebar covers are in the collection of The Victoria and Albert Museum (accession no. S.231 to S.233&A-1977), having been donated by Sir Elton John himself. The bicycle was customised with diamantes for Sir Elton John by Bill Whitten (1944-2006), American costume designer to the stars. Interestingly, the platform boots preserved at the V&A are also encrusted with rhinestones to the soles and heels. A fine exhibition quality and award winning 5 inch gauge model of a Midland 4-4-0 tender locomotive No 999, built by the late Mr Peter Dupen of Sussex, a well known and a National award winning model engineer. The silver soldered boiler with fittings including safety valve, twin water sight glasses having fitted drain taps, regulator, scale steam and vacuum gauges with associated copper pipework, lever operated firebox door, direction control and fitted drivers seat. The chassis having fluted motion internal cylinders and valve gear, six-wheel tender with vented water tank, brakes, coal doors, lamp irons ,lamp, vacuum hose and coupling. The model finished in maroon and black lined livery with fitted steps, handrails, lamps and vacuum hoses. Condition Report: This engine has been steamed. The GCB & GCMG ceremonial robes and mantle stars belonging to Arthur William de Brito Savile Foljambe, 2nd Earl of Liverpool, GCB, GCMG, GBE, MVO who after a distinguished military career was appointed Governor-General of New Zealand, retiring from service in 1920 Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath (GCB), ceremonial robe, the crimson silk robe with white silk lining and tailors label for 'Ede & Ravenscroft' additionally inscribed 'The Rt Hon Earl of Liverpool GCB', with a large silver bullion mantle star with red and gold detail, measuring 25 x 25cm with roped tassels Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael & St George (GCMG), ceremonial robe, the blue silk robe with tailors label for 'Ede, Son Ravenscroft' and additionally inscribed 'Earl of Liverpool GCMG', with a large silver bullion mantle star with red, blue and gold detail, measuring 20.5 x 20cm, the robe approximately 165cm long, some damage notably to the collar both contained in a japanned metal tin, the lid inscribed 'Earl of Liverpool GCMG', 10.5cm high x 65cm wide x 47cm deep Bicorne hat, black fur with black lace embroidered decoration by Wilkinson & Son, Maddox Street, London. W.', the tailors label inscribed 'Earl of Liverpool', contained in original metal hat box with brass plaque engraved 'The Right Hon Earl of Liverpool', together with a number of related documents including Annual Service booklets for The Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St George (1927, 1930, 1931, 1937, 1938 (2), 1939), a letter from Ede, Son & Ravenscroft dated 16th July 1914, the letter is informing the Earl of Liverpool that his mantle star is supplied by Wingate & Johnstone, a bestowal document for the Order of the Bath, a booklet for Statutes Order of the BathNote: Arthur William de Brito Savile Foljambe, 2nd Earl of Liverpool, GCB, GCMG, GBE, MVO, PC, JP, DL (1870-1941) was born at Compton Place, Eastbourne, Sussex. He was educated at Eton College and at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst before being commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Rifle Brigade in 1891. He advanced to Captain in 1897 and served in South Africa during the Boer War. In 1901 he was appointed an extra aide-de-camp to the Earl Cadogan, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. He retired from military service in 1907. He succeeded his father in earldom in 1907 and took his seat in the House of Lords on the Liberal benches. After an appointment under H.H. Asquith he was appointed Governor of New Zealand in 1912. In 1917 the office was raised in rank to that of Governor-General of New Zealand. He retired from his post in 1920 and was appointed a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath the same year. During WWI, Liverpool conferred his name upon a New Zealand infantry regiment. The New Zealand Rifle Brigade (Earl of Liverpool's Own) which was formed in 1915 and disbanded in 1919. 2nd Earl of Liverpool died at his residence Canwick Hall in 1941 aged 73. CONDITION REPORT: The pink robe:- smells of moth balls, overall appearance good, creased, faint stains to outer and lining, the fabric appears in a fair condition with minor to little damage.The blue robe:- the silk is in poor condition, fragile and damaged, with large areas of tearing, holes and losses (see images) especially to the neck and shoulders and around the badge, the badge is in good condition.

Reeded arms and legs both scuffed both chairs sound in joints back left hand upright above seat stretcher badly scratched
A George III lacquered longcase clock, with an arched brass dial, with a silvered chapter ring with subsidiary seconds and calendar aperture, inscribed William Ray, Sudbury, with a eight-day movement and striking the hours on a bell, with a ball mounted hood, chinoiserie decorated trunk and door, with weights and pendulum, dial 11.5in., 243cm highCondition report: Case worn, and ball finials damaged. Dial and movement appears to have been cleaned.It appears to have originally been black, rather than a deep red or green. The case is structurally in a good order. There are losses/flaking sections to the lacquer. The seat board and case do not show obvious signs of adjustment, such as additional timbers, which suggests they may be original.

18th century 30 hour longcase clock by John Garland, Cuckfield with brass square dial striking on bell in chinoiserie decorated black lacquered case (later decorated). 190cm high - pendulum and weight present.Condition report: General overall condition good, movement is dirty and we are unable to confirm if it is in full working order. Seat board has been glued in place but movement appears original. Dial has been cleaned, silvering on chapter ring has been removed and some of numerals have been retouched, matted centre has a mark to right side. Case is in good condition, some evidence of filled old wood worm, and has been renovated, decoration has been retouched. Hood is good, one side glass is cracked and there is a chip to the inside of the door glass.
