A pair of early 18th century cherry side chairs, each with a curved splat back with carved scroll decoration in the Chinese manner, to a later drop-in seat, on leaf capped cabriole legs and later stretchers. A pair of 19th century Italian mahogany armchairs by Henry Thomas Peters of Genoa, each with button upholstery to scroll arms and an egg and dart frieze, on turned front legs to brass caps and castors stamped `COPE`S PATENT`, the underside stamped `PETERS MAKER GENOA`, the seat frame with iron brackets stamped `I&H SORBY`, c.1840. (2) Henry Thomas Peters (d.1852) was active in Genova around 1830-1850 and was one of the leading cabinet makers of the period. He was appointed cabinet maker to the Court of Savoy and produced furniture for the Palazzo Reale in Genova. Peters produced furniture with the technical accuracy typical of English pieces but adapted it to a late Italian Empire style.

A set of six Regency ebonised and parcel gilt open armchairs in the manner of John Gee, each with a lyre back decorated with ribbon tied drapes and crossed arrows with a laurel wreath, with spiral fluted arm supports to a cane seat and squab cushions, on turned supports, the seat rails stamped with workmen`s marks `R`, `SB`, `H`, `E H`, `AC` and `E R`. A Regency ebonised and parcel gilt three seater sofa in the manner of John Gee, with a pierced top rail decorated with ribbon tied drapes, to fluted twist arms, with a cane seat, sides and seat, and a squab cushion and bolsters, the frame stamped `TF`, 88.8cm high, 195.2cm wide, 75cm deep. Provenance: By repute the Arkwright Family, Derbyshire. Purchased from Millhouse Antiques, Halfway Bridge, Near Petworth.
