A pair of late-Victorian Regimental silver menu card holders, The Royal Warwickshire Regiment, by Henry Brown, London 1891, modelled as the regimental badge, one with a crown around its neck, on raised circular bases on wooden plinths, engraved 'H McC' for Harry McCalmont', height 7.2cm. (2) The menu card holders were presented to the mess when McCalmont joined the 4th Bn of the Regiment. Harry McCalmont (1861-1902) joined the army in 1879 and by 1888 he had got involved in horse breeding. In 1895 he entered Parliament when he won the Newmarket seat for the conservatives. He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and Honoury Colonel of the 4th Battalion and he served in South Africa 1900-1901. He returned to take up his seat in Parliament, but died in 1902 at the age of 42.

Modern pine roll top desk, serpentine tambour enclosing a fitted interior, twin pedestals fitted with drawers, ogee bracket feet, widrth 134cm, depth 63cm, height 114cm, and an elm hoop back chair.Qty: 2Condition report:General condition is good, but some fading toward the right hand side top section. The tambour slide does still work but is a little sticky. The top surface with multiple scratch marks/ faint indents (as if someone has repeated used a ballpoint pen on the top). The interior has some old tape to the drawer fronts that will probably leave a mark when removed. Some kick marks surrounding the kneehole. No worm. The chair has one damaged spindel that has snapped from the seat at the base, the back is wobbling and loose, otherwise light use to edges and corners.

THe rushing in good order to both. The frames with some knocks and nibbles throughout - most pertinently to the stretchers. With some minor shrinkage cracks occurring to both.
