A 17th century oak Wainscot chair, with shaped cresting rail, panelled back, solid seat and turned legs with low stretchers. Width across arms 52 cm, height to top of back 96 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The Wainscot chair appears to be fairly original. The right hand facing upper section of the arm does not have as much wear as the left hand arm. It does however clearly have age and may well be alright. The front section of the seat panel is quite badly worn and not as dark as the rear panel. Again this may have been replaced and looks to be a different colour underneath. The left hand facing bottoms of both legs appear old and more worn than those on the right hand side however the general surface finish seems similar. It may just be that the legs have been cut down leaving them a little flat on the right hand side. All stretchers appear to be original.
A late Victorian Chesterfield settee, upholstered in Royal blue velvet type material and raised on turned legs terminating in castors. Width 204 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: Height from floor to top of seat +/- 47 cm. Height from floor to top of arm 73.5 cm. Depth of seat 56.5 cm. Maximum depth 82 cm. The settee is structurally very sound. There are no repairs to the legs and no movement at the joints. The left hand rear castor and cradle support is detached from the pin that is screwed into the base of the foot. The settee was fully reupholstered approximately 15 years ago. It was traditionally reupholstered and none of the internal springs are poking through the base. The condition of the fabric is generally very good. There is no significant wear to the back or fronts of the arms. The velvet is in extremely good condition with no significant wear and no significant staining.
An Edwardian mahogany Gainsborough style chair, with upholstered back, padded arms, stuffover seat and with exposed carved showframe. Width across arms 66 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The chair is structurally sound. There are no repairs to the legs or lower frame. The fronts of both arms are in good condition. The right hand facing arm is slightly loose at the joints and there is some slight damage to the incised decoration at the very rear right hand side of the arm where it joins the back. The left hand arm is solid. There are the usual small nibbles to the carving as one would expect. The chair requires reupholstering.
A late Victorian oak Klismos stool, boxwood and ebony strung. Top dimensions 47 cm x 42 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The stool is structurally very sound with no obvious faults or repairs to the woodwork. Both stretchers are in good order and there are no loose joints. There are the usual minor scuffs and scratches but no significant issues. The webbing and seat pad are in very good condition. A pair of Edwardian armchairs, with rollover arms, stuffover seats and upholstered in foliate patterned blue, gold and beige material and raised on turned ebonised front legs terminating in castors. CONDITION REPORT: These chairs have come from a good local property and they are in generally extremely good order. They have clearly been fairly recently well upholstered. There are no holes, tears or any significant wear to the material. There is perhaps slight discolouration at the front of each arm but this is really minimal. All legs are structurally sound with no repairs and no restoration. There is some rubbing through the ebonised finish in particular to the front legs. All castors are present and all the same and are likely to be original. The springing to the seats is good. We can see no evidence of any woodworm. Width across top of back 64 cm, height to top of back 90 cm, width across arms at the widest point 78 cm, depth of seat 64 cm, width across front of seat 73 cm, width between arms 43 cm, height to top of seat approximately 40 cm, height to top of leg 16.5 cm, maximum depth approximately 90 cm.
A Georgian walnut longcase clock by Godfrie Poy of London, with two-train striking movement and silvered brass arched dial, the case with caddy top, with long trunk door and stepped base. Height 270 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The case hood is in generally reasonably good condition. There are some minor nibbles to the veneers and stress fractures to the caddy top. The top cornice has a small loss to the front left hand corner. The door is not warped. The glazed side panels are in good condition. The beaded moulding beneath the brass capitals has a significant loss to the left hand return and a smaller loss to the right. The sides of the trunk are in good condition. The door has a very slight warp around the top left hand corner but in our opinion this is not particularly problematic. The base is in generally good condition with only minor nibbles to the veneers, old stress fractures and small losses. There are the usual scuffs to the base moulding. Whilst the mask around the dial fits reasonably, in our opinion the case and movement are likely to be a marriage. There is packing to either side of the seatboard. We do not have a pendulum with this clock and have not had the movement running. When weight is applied to the going train the movement appears to operate it is should however it is extremely dirty. The strike mechanism runs when the movement is advanced however it is not striking correctly and requires some attention. The case hood is in generally reasonably good condition.
