A Victorian Stained Beech Astronomer's Chair, the curved back with pierced top rail extending to a low scroll seat on an X-frame supports, 34cm wide, 85cm highThis chair normally bears an oval plate "W Callaghan, 28a New Bond Street S, Registered London January 15th 1873". W Callaghan is listed as an optician in London directories between 1866 and 1892. Several of these chairs are known to exist and it seems to be accepted that they are probably for use with a telescope. A similar chair is illustrated in Architectural Review Decoration Supplement July 1937 from the catalogue of a loan exhibition depicting "British Country Life", where it is described as a cherry sorter's chair. Gilbert (C) Furniture at Temple Newsam House and Lotherton Hall 1998, a similar chair with the Callaghan label is illustrated and described pg.591-2, fig.712 CONDITION REPORT: The seat has a split and has numerous deep scratches around the seat and also the back support. There is a further small split running from the joint of the seat and back support up to one of the peg joints. Chair structure is OK however there are further numerous scuffs on the other side of the seat and the back support and around the legs.

A 19th Century Mahogany Footstool, in the manner of Gillows, recovered in floral fabric with overstuffed seat, the moulded seat rail on turned and reeded legs, 35cm by 32cm by 19cm CONDITION REPORT: Upholstery reasonable. The legs and framework are rather scuffed and tired with some small splits on the top of the legs. Structurally OK.
A Set of Seven Club Armchairs, mid 20th century, covered in close-nailed green leather, the plain seat rails on square tapering legs with spade feet, 57cm by 48cm by 81cm CONDITION REPORT: Varying in condition and generally good. Some have general scuffs around the back support and arms. The leather to one of the seats is slightly dry. All chair legs with general scuffs consistent with age. All structurally sound and useable.
A Set of Six Victorian Carved Mahogany Balloon-Back Dining Chairs, circa 1870, the acanthus carved top rails above scrolled horizontal splats, the green velvet covered horsehair overstuffed seats with serpentine shaped seat rails, on carved forelegs, 47cm by 44cm by 84cm CONDITION REPORT: Structurally sound with the exception of one chair. The chair which is unstable - velvet is worn on one of the corners. The seats are horse hair filled and generally in reasonable condition. The frames are good quality timber frames however forelegs around the feet are scuffed.

The sloped section to the left-hand side also has a thumb nail sized section of timber missing.

A Pair of Victorian Chesterfield Sofas, late 19th century, recovered in buttoned cream fabric, with overstuffed back support and arms above a sprung base, on turned forelegs with castors, 183cm by 83cm by 70cm CONDITION REPORT: The structure of both sofas is rather soft but the fabric is in generally good condition with the exception of the seat on one of the sofas which has some light soiling. The corner of the arm where the fabric is folded on this sofa also needs attention.
